Fitting Zeiss Lenses To The Kiev60 article
On the CZJ lenses the distance between the indexing screw and the
flange is greater than whats found on the Kiev60 lenses.
This means that the screw will bottom out in the indexing hole before
the lens flange hits the body mount causing the lens to sit high and
then the locking ring cant get up over the leading edge of the lens
flange.
On some cameras you might find that the ring might start to hold the
lens down but not with a confidence inspiring turn like it does with
the original Kiev60 lenses.
This gap is greater on
Zeiss lenses.
*You can double check that this is the area of trouble by temporarily
removing the index screw from the lense and with the body lock ring
back in place it should lock down correctly.
Some dodgy web sites suggest grinding or filing the screw smaller to
get it to fit but this isn't the best cure at all.
This is because its only half of the problem.
Measurements taken from a number of Kiev60 bodies show that the main
cause of trouble lies at the mount on the camera body itself and not
with the lenses index screw.
The threaded area on the mount shows variations in the length that it
protrudes from the body.
On the inside of this threaded area some bodites are only about 4.5 mm deep and some are nearly 6 mm deep.
The bodies that are too shallow here will allow the index screw to hit
the bottom before it should.
Ideally the indexing screw should NOT touch the bottom of the index
notch in the body at all.
What can we do so that all CZJ lenses will fit our Kiev60 ?
