A Growing Family
In the Beginning...

It is hard to believe that meeting each other one beautiful San Francisco day in 1996 would set into motion a sequence of events that would take us from San Francisco to Boston to Connecticut, as a married couple, and as the parents of two wonderful boys.

Just like the unexpected surprise of meeting on that fateful day in July, the desire to add another little personality to our family struck this past year on a sleepless summer evening.

The passion to bring another little boy into our family has firmly taken hold.  Every moment of the day, I envision another special little boy running through our home, playing the the back yard, and yelling at the top of his lungs!

And so begins our journey to adopt our third son, a beautiful boy named Franklin David, who was born on March 4, 2002 in Guatemala.

With the piles of paperwork (in neat files :-) and the overwhelming amount of information we are gathering, I wanted to share as much as possible with our family and friends in hopes that everyone can enjoy following this unique experience at their own pace.

I once read someone describe adoption as "a different kind of pregnancy" and that is as good a description as I have seen.  It is obviously much more of a mental pregancy than a physical one, but having experienced both, I am quickly learning that it is equally consuming and emotional.  Just like a pregnancy, we are hoping for the best and we are aware of the risks.  Thanks for sharing these experiences with us!

For David -
Once there were two women
Who never knew each other.
One you do not remember
The other you call mother.
Two different lives
Shaped to make you one.
One became your guiding star
The other became your sun.
The first one gave you life
And the second taught you to live it.
The first gave you a need for love
The second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality
The other gave you a name.
One gave you talent
The other gave you aim.
One gave you emotions
The other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile
The other dried your tears.
One sought a home for you
That she could not provide.
The other prayed for a child
And her hope was not denied.
