January 23, 2006 - Ian is not totally grasping that he will soon have another brother but since we are a number of months away from Franklin David coming home, we have not been spending too much time preparing him. Once we have been notified that we are out of PGN, we will start showing him more photos of Franklin and sharing more detail. Having said that, it is worth noting, however, that the other day when Ian awoke from a nap, John and I went to his room. I said, "Ian, guess who is coming to play with you and John this afternoon?" He smiled and said, "Franklin?" We told him it was Grandpa and that Franklin wasn't coming yet. So, he must be absorbing some of it!!! It was very cute!

March 26, 2006 - Ian is talking a lot about "Franklin David" now. It is hard to gauge how sophisticated his understanding is but as an example, his preschool was doing a project on "Family" and each child answered a few questions about their family. Ian listed: "Mom, Dad, John, Ian and Franklin David Spanish" as the members of his family. Very cute.
Ian also spontaneously says things like "I want to go to Guatemala" or he'll see a child with dark hair and ask "Franklin?". Today we started talking about feelings...about how he might be excited and nervous about having a new brother. He replied saying "I am happy... I am scared of David". So we talked that throught....that he needn't be scared of David...but that it is OK to be nervous and to be a little scared about how our family will change with 3 brothers. Then, in a flash, Ian was chasing John around the room. End of conversation for today :) |
