Mary Bridge Oncology Clinic - Relay for Life - Kids for a Cure
- Newsletter -
Hello runners and walkers,

Well it is that time of the year again, the 24 hr. Relay for Life fundraiser. Last year our Mary Bridge Oncology kids' team raised $6500.00, on behalf of the American Cancer Society, and we won the team spirit award. Each team member is responsible for raising $150.00 so you can receive a Relay for Life tee-shirt, and you must run or walk a 2 hour shift (you may do your hours in 2 shifts of 1 hour each). At our first team meeting we will have a sign up sheet for time slots, think of a time you might like to have; they begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully you all have your fundraising packets and if you don't please call Kim Messner @ 253-334-5390 or contact Heather at the clinic. We also have receipts, donation sheets, coin boxes, and if you have any question we can get you answers. Mark your calendar for May 17th & 18th 2002, 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. . A tentative team meeting is being scheduled for early March, we will keep you posted. We will need to have your name and address for registration, they will keep track of your donations that you turn in by your name, and we will need a shirt size too. The theme this year is baseball; we should have a lot of fun with that one. Our tent sites are #157 , #153 . They're around the same spot they were last year, just different number.

Thank you,
Kimberly Messner

I am sure we would have won the baton award for our pony, had we been paying attention to when the contest was. Next year we will be better prepared, we will have someone in charge of paying attention! Many thanks to Dolly for our beautiful Clinic pony. He is one of a kind. Our jail was great too! Thanks to all of the kids who let us take their pictures for our wanted posters they were so cute.

The American Cancer Society was thrilled that so many of the children from our clinic showed up for the survivors lap. Remember even if you are not running or walking we want you there to hang out and eat all that food we get donated!

Some of our kids even got on cable channel 12, interviewed by Miss Washington. She was great and let all of the kids say something on TV. It was lots of fun. We are hoping they will do it again so stay tuned for details.

Regretfully we mourn the passing of our dear friend, Megan Nicole Snook. She left us all with many beautiful memories.

The Safeway stores donated $3,000 dollars to our relay for life team. We split the money between both teams. Thank you so much Safeway!

We were set up with some local Safeways to put out coin jars for The American Cancer Society in December of 2001, but because of the terrorist attacks we got bumped. So we are trying to get another month in 2002. Any moneys turned in from now until September 2002 is banked for our team!!!! So it's never too early to start.
