All she could think was make it last. The silence that had built had gotten them almost to her building and even though she was cold and dripping wet all she wanted was the silence to be broken only by the occasional static of the police radio as it had been thus far.

The snow had ruined her shoes and her feet were freezing in spite of the heat pouring from the car. She wanted to be alone, in flannel pyjamas, with a bottle of gin and loud music and a thick pair of wool socks.

Moreover she wanted to be far from the woman beside her who knew far too much without knowing much at all. She didn't know of the constant waves of self-doubt, the jockeying for position, the waves of nausea that overtook her every time she looked at crime scene photos. So she had taken a night and danced it all out of her system, throwing her body into rhythms that allowed her to pass over it all, out into the world where only music was real and as she twisted in the music everything else faded. And she had no desire to confide these things in anyone.

But she wanted to know why Olivia saw her. She selected the club carefully and it was a place known only for two things -- a good dj and easy pickups of eager young women. If Olivia had been on the dance floor the seeing would have been mutual. She certainly hadn't been dancing.

The car slid into a lucky space in front of her building and the usual remarks of thanks and no problems were quickly uttered but she sat in the car in spite of herself. She knew she had to say something, one of them did.

"Casey, I want you to know I haven't told anyone and I won't."

There was silence then and she nodded, wondering if Olivia expected the same assurance in return. What came from her mouth was very different.

"Some people drink Olivia, or smoke up, but I go dancing. What do you do?"
