Olivia held her hair back as Casey retched into the toilet bowl. She had been at it for several minutes, and the sound of the contents of her stomach hitting the water was punctuated with slurred comments of "oh god" and "I'm sorry" at which Olivia fought to keep the grin off her face. It seemed only fair she should suffer, a little at least.
When Casey seemed to be finished, she took a cloth and ran it under the cold water tap in the sink. Casey sat on the side of the bath tub with her head in her hands. Olivia moved her hair out of the way then took the cloth and laid it against the back of her neck.
"Thank-you," she said.
"Don't worry about it," Olivia replied.
"I'm sorry."
"You've mentioned that. I'm going to get you some water."
She padded her way to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge unsure of what to think or how to feel. Four hours ago Casey had told her she didn't want to see her anymore. Next she was sitting on her couch offering a slurred apology and maintaining she only wanted to break it off because she felt Olivia wasn't letting her in. She wondered where she was supposed to be letting her in to.
She lingered in the kitchen, faced with the prospect of the drunken ADA in her bathroom and grabbed a bottle of water for herself. She cracked the seal and took a long swallow. Facing Casey at all was not what she had planned on doing. Facing a drunken Casey who seemed intent on making up was even less appealing. She planned to give her the water, call her a cab and send her home. If she was lucky, Casey would forget about the apology and the attempt to make up. She walked back to the bathroom and say the bottle of mouthwash sitting on the side of the sink, cap off. Casey wasn't there, or in the living room. That only left one room.
She walked into the bedroom and found Casey sprawled across the bed on her stomach. She stepped closer and discovered she was lying there eyes wide open but drooling slightly.
"What are you doing?"
"I think I'm lying down but I can't be sure, the room is still spinning."
She held out the water bottle. "Drink this."
"I can't, I don't think I can move."
Olivia set the bottle on the nightstand and resigned herself to having a guest overnight. She took off Casey's shoes and set them next to the bed, unbuttoned her jeans and slid them off leaving Casey in a t-shirt and underwear. She threw the blanket from the foot of the bed over her and went to the closet to grab a blanket for herself.
"What are you doing?"
"Getting a blanket."
"Why?"
"So I can sleep on the couch."
"You should sleep here. I want you to sleep here."
"I don't think so."
"But you should sleep with me. I like it when you sleep with me."
"Uh-huh. That's great. Go to sleep."
"I can't."
Olivia sighed and sat on the edge of the bed. "Why not?"
"Cause I can't sleep alone anymore."
"Well you're gonna have to learn."
"I don't want to learn. I want you beside me."
