| This is the sequel to one of the top movies of 2002. Which stars Tobey McGuire as Peter (Spiderman) Parker, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane, James Franco as Harry Osborn, Rosemary Harris as Aunt May, and Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus.
Movie: The movie starts off pretty slow. It was more drama then an action flick in the first hour in which, the movie focused more on the characters and there emotions. Like Peter Parker deciding who he wants to be; himself or Spiderman. As for Mary Jane's character, she tries to go on with her life seeing that Peter does not have time for her. The downside, I felt the director could have done a better job on Dr. Octopus's character, especially after the lab accident. I also wanted to see more of Harry's reaction after witnessing his company, OsCorp being demolished from the accident. The action part of the movie that took place in the last half, was very astonishing. Just like the first Spiderman, the crew did a excellent job on the fighting choreography that went along with the beautiful background scenery. By the end of the film, after seeing the battles between Spiderman and Dr. Octopus, it was well worth the slow beginning. So, I give Sam Raimi a lot of credit on building up the climax. 7/10 |

| Video: The first thing I noticed is the new 2.40:1 Anamorphic Widescreen aspect ratio of the film, which was different from the first movie. The outdoor environment had a sharp and crisp autumn feel to it, where the color was more on orange and pinkish side. This gives you the dramatic feel to the film but also gives you the dull artificial look. The special effects that was done by CGI is fairly sharp and gives you the 3D look. For example, the arms of Dr. Octopus, the OsCorp company's energy project, and even the train scene looked very well done. Spiderman's overall cinematography is very good, and the film crew did an excellent job establishing the mood for viewing.
9/10 Audio: The disc includes both Dobly 5.1 and DTS. I watched the movie in both formats but prefer DTS because it was more crisp in the action scenes and sometimes surprised me with the clean bass. The sound effects were also clean like the sounds from Dr. Octopus mechanical arms, Spiderman's web slinger and the explosions. The dialogue is crystal clear but the script itself had some very corny and boring lines. Me personally, I think Tobey McGuire has a very boring voice and some of his lines aren't very convincing and almost made me fall asleep. It was hard not to laugh at some of Aunt May's line even though it was of a serious matter. 8/10 |
| Extras: The second disc, contains fully animated menu with all the extras and special features in 3 different subtitled languages. And can be put into your DVD-Rom for more Features which I haven't Tried out yet. Making the Amazing - 12 chapters for over 2 HOURS of Behind the Scenes Featurettes - Hero in Crisis Ock-Umentary: Eight Arms to Hold You Interwoven: The Women of Spiderman Enter the Web Gallery Interactive - Activision's Spiderman 2: The Game Trailer and Spinning The Game Featurette 10/10 Overall: The first Spiderman showcased a lot of high flying, intense action. So, I expected the second one to be the same but more. But instead, I got the sensitive side of Spiderman and the sensitive side of an action movie. I purchased this dvd for $14.99 in the previously viewed section at Blockbuster Videos. The second disc alone was almost worth the price, but the movie itself fell short of the first one. For the price that I paid, I was very satisfied and I would have paid the retail price. This is a definite buy for any movie or dvd lovers. |
