Hi, welcome and enjoy
your stay spending time at my small little piece of work. Let me tell you little
about myself. I am Prayas Khant, young (you can guess), resident of
Philadelphia, USA. I've always liked computers. This is probably because from my
early childhood I was eager to learn new things and new technology. I used to
love playing with "Hi-Tech" Gadgets. When I was five (1981), I used to crack
open my new toys in about less than two days after I get it. By then, everyone
close to me knew that I will probably be good at technical stuff. This gave me
confidence and in 8th grade when I began my high school with some higher math
class, beginning programming in BASIC. I was very eager to learn programming and
I did more assignments than I was given. I think that after first month, I
already knew more than anyone else in class.
The next year, we got a new computer lab at school and I got approval to get
into the advanced programming class. Even though I liked computers, I wasn't
happy with this class because it was supposed to be advanced and I had to
get a head start for college if I was going to major in Computers.
I finally graduated from St.
Xavier's High School,Jamnagar (Official
Website) in March 1994 with a High School Diploma in Technology and Science.
I went to Pune, a city in South West India, to do
my Engineering in Electronics and Communication. In my first year I stood
in the top ten list in University of Bombay. I was in my second year (1996)
and my family planned to move to USA and so I had to leave my further studies
in India. In May 2001 I achieved my Bachelor's in Computer and Information
Systems from Gwynedd Mercy College. I have worked
for Gwynedd Mercy College as a Network Administrator and HelpDesk Analyst
for my entire college career. I have also been a Systems Administrator for
Susquehanna Investment Group
in Summer 1999. I am currenty working for Merck & Co., Inc. as a Senoir Systems Specialist
in US Human Health Division. Besides academic activities during my college
years I have been an active officer of AITP
and worked closely with International Student Association in organizing events
and activities. I am currently pursuing my MBA with concentration in Management
in Technology at Lehigh University. I have learned that I love
to work technically and today at this age, as I used to do in my early years
of childhood, if needed I crack open any computer and fix the problem. I am
also very lucky that my family supported me on all ups and downs and I ended
up doing what I was interested.
During my college life, I have learned so much about life and
what it is like to be an adult. I relate my college experience to the 50 gallon
fish tank in a real world. I feel like I'm in that fish tank, swiming around and
experiencing life but with the protection of not having to be completely on my
own. I get fed everynight and I have my own little log to hide in when I get
scared.
Getting Bachelor's and Master's degrees is something that I will be proud
of the rest of my life. Getting a Bachelor's degree in Computer and Information
Systems is something pretty special because the classes can be so difficult
at times. This is a huge hurlde, a goal that I know within my heart that I
have achieved. From my college experience so far, I have glimpsed at what
I can achieve and it amazes me. If I try my hardest and never give up, I can
do anything.
