Mission:
Programs:
Our mission is to research and demonstrate ways to decrease the ecological footprint of individuals as a way of improving and protecting the urban environment, to promote environmental consciousness, and to promote the creation and restoration of diverse, compact, and vibrant urban communities.
Cooperative Living Laboratory
An intentional community of ethnic, racial, gender, age, sexual orientation, and economic diversity seeking to use fewer resources through reducing ecological footprints. Our building maintains lower cost housing as an alternative to the condominiums around us. This also reduces our sociological footprint as we work to improve the environment of our neighborhood and the community at large.

Bicycle Transportation Program
Designed to foster the use of bicycles as a viable means of urban transportation through education and support for current and new bike riders in the city of Chicago. We are in need of volunteers to help get this program off the ground!

Urban Technology Program
Designed to foster an understanding of new technologies or the reintroduction of existing technologies related to conservation for homes and offices. An example of a current technology being explored is worm composting.

Learning
For KEUC, discovery is just the first step. Knowledge becomes power when it is shared. KEUC hosts discussions on current ecological issues. Facilitators encourage challenging dialog and participants are given ideas and challenges to take home and begin putting action behind the talk.
Tenets:
Cooperation
Our commitment to each other and the world requires us to work with one another on projects to decrease the ecological impact of individuals while strengthening our community

Diversity
Our commitment is to learn from and work together alongside people of diverse ethnicity, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, educational background and economic means.

Experimentation
Our commitment to exploring and testing new technologies and ideas allows us to lower the ecological footprint of individuals and our community at large.
