QUANTUM CREEK --  Part Sixteen

Joshua Jackson quietly approached Kerr just as everyone broke for lunch and asked, "Is everything ready for Rachael's surprise?"
Kerr nodded and tried to contain his enthusiasm.
Josh said to Kerr, "You know, I could have asked James to help me, but he doesn't seem to be himself this week.  He also tried to talk me out of it.  Besides, Kevin gave him the day off."
"I put the box underneath the seat in the boat just like you instructed.  I gave Rachael the letter this morning.  No one else was around when I put the box in the boat, I made sure."
"Good.  David wants to shoot that scene right after lunch, so I'll be back from lunch just for that.  Later, dude," Josh said as he quietly slinked away.
As Josh left, Kerr joked to himself, "Jabba, you're a wonderful human being."

Sam woke up.  It was Saturday morning, almost noontime.  As he sat up, he tried to remember the dream he had had last night about Rachael.
"Something about 'Creek Daze' wasn't filmed yet," Sam muttered to himself on the way to the bathroom.  Sam tried to recall the dream, but that was all he could remember.  After he got out of the bathroom, he went into the pantry.
"I am so SICK of english muffins," Sam said out loud, making James' usual breakfast again.  "I can't wait to leap-out so I can eat some decent food for a change."
Sam sat at the kitchen table after he got breakfast ready.  He grabbed the script he had brought back the night before and, even though he had filmed all the scenes in the script, he decided to go over it one last time.  When he looked at the script, he realized that it was not the episode's script he had brought back with him.  It was the prop script that Sam had in his hand when he first leaped-in on Wednesday night.  Sam decided to read it anyway.  He had no kind of expectations that it would contain any clues that he needed.
As it turned out, the prop script was actually a script for a future episode.  In the script teaser, Devon was rowing Joey's boat as Dawson's movie ends.
"That's it!" Sam said out loud, finally realizing why he had not leaped-out yet.  "Rachael is not finished filming yet!  The scenes she and Monica were going to rehearse were not for the episode I finished filming yesterday, they were for scenes from Dawson's movie!"
Racing to get dressed, Sam knew he was still there to save Rachael.  He knew if he was able to find out what kind of accident she was supposed to have, and where it was supposed to happen, then he could still save her if time was on his side.
On his way to the studio, all Sam could wonder was where was Al when Sam needed him?

Kerr Smith returned from lunch early.  Although he had missed Josh's first practical joke on Rachael, like Eddie Mills had, at least Kerr was in on this one.  The night before, Joshua Jackson had "borrowed" some of James Van Der Beek's personal stationary and wrote a love letter to Rachael as if it were from James.  Joshua gave the letter to Kerr to deliver and told Kerr to go into his trailer and take the box that was by the sink to the docks where the boat that Katie Holmes always has to row on camera was located.  Josh told Kerr to leave the box under the boat seat and to cover it so no one would notice it.  Josh also instructed Kerr to hand-deliver the letter that Josh had prepared as part of the joke to Rachael on Saturday morning.  This way, Rachael would not suspect that the letter and the box were all part of Josh's final practical joke on her.
Before Kerr had put the box in the boat, he gift wrapped it to make it look more authentic, more like a real gift.  Although Kerr had forgotten to tell Josh this, he did remember to ask about what was in the box.
"Never you mind.  You'll see when the time comes," Josh said with a wicked devilish grin.  "It's a real Harvey Kneeslapper."
Kerr did try to prod Josh more on the subject of what was in the box, but Josh never did let the cat out of the bag.

Joshua Jackson returned from lunch a few minutes late.  He wanted to get to the docks quickly so he could see his master plan unfold.  He had written a love letter in James' name to Rachael last night after he had snuck out of the autograph session early to "borrow" some of James' personal stationary.  Included in the letter was a mushy poem Josh had quickly written.  The letter said she could find a gift underneath the boat seat when she went to film the scene that represented the end of Dawson's movie "Creek Daze".Josh also wrote that she should not open the gift until after the scene was completed.  Josh had rigged the bottom of the box to quickly slide open from the inside when the top was opened.
Aisleegh, Josh's younger sister, came up with the idea of putting fake slime in a box that was rigged to open from the bottom when the top was opened.  Sometimes that sister of mine is quite the little prankster genius, Josh had thought when his sister had told him about the slime gag.
Josh did not know if the slime needed water added to it or not, so he had brought the whole contraption into the bathroom when he was first setting up the gag.  Since the slime did not need water, he put it into the box and left it by the bathroom sink.  Joshua had told Kerr to get the box by the sink in his trailer and bring it to the boat.  Kerr was to place the box under the boat seat and cover it with something to hide the box.
Josh wanted to take photos of his master plan unfolding so he went back to his trailer to get his camera.  When he went into the bathroom, he saw that the box was still there.  Then, he realized that Kerr must have misunderstood him.  Josh had put the box that contained the spring-loaded "mouse in the box" by the kitchen sink after playing that joke on Rachael a few days ago.  Kerr must have taken the wrong box by mistake.
"So much for not playing the same practical joke twice on the same person," Josh muttered to himself.  "Hopefully, Rachael will not realize it's the same practical joke since it's the same box.  Oh well.  May as well get it on film anyway."
