York:   We were based about 7 mins walk from this gate.  A town we both really loved..and hope to return to one day.  Touristy  but   although there was so much that was commerial about it.. It still didn't seem to overwhelm the feel of the old town area.
Itinerary & Accomodation
One of the old town gates.
York Minster: Supposed to have the best stained glass of any church  etc in the UK.  But I actually liked the stained glass in Bath Abbey better. Although the building itself was lovely.
Within the old town. there were many wonderful buildings  etc..  This passageway really caught my eye.

York was also a  major viking cetre. If you get to go there  the  Viking centre  although not cheap was well worth a visit just for the artifact room  and the helpers who proved to be  amazing sources of information about the vikings and their lives.
