The Wonderful World of Pern

Imagine a world where money doesn't exist, nor organized religion, nor advanced technology...but dragons DO exist! Well, then, you've got Pern. Pern is a world created by Anne McCaffrey. There is a multitude of novels based on this world, as well as many online fan clubs, MUSHes, MOOs, etc on which to role play. The World of Pern has been in exsistance for 30 years now, and it has fans around the World of Earth.

I won't go into detail here about what Pern is. I will tell you where you can find a list of all her books, sites with artwork, and other fun stuff. I will also show you some of the characters I play on a few MUSHes. MUSH stands for Multi User Shared Hallucination. Basically, it's a facilitated place for folk to gather on-line and role-play. There's no combat, and few rules other than to respect other players. Each MUSH varies based on content and setting. PernMUSH is set in a timeline where Thread still exists...the mysterious menace from the sky that eats anything organic. Fire and water are the only thing that will kill it, hence the need for dragonriders to fight it. PernMUSH is the largest Pern-based MUSH, and is often known affectionately as NC (short for Northern Continent). However, I don't currently play on this MUSH, as it's really too big for me to feel at home. The only Pern based MUSH that I currently play on is called PernWorld MUSH. This MUSH is set a little further along in the Pern timeline, after the re-discovery of AIVAS, and the elimination of Thread. There is a higher level of technology in this time, with computers and the like. On this MUSH I have two characters that I play regularly. The first is Kylar, a Master Dragonhealer and Independent Greenrider. I also play a character named Kevyn, a young Brownrider at Fort Weyr who is the resident Weyr Starcrafter and Weyrlingmaster.
