1977 Porsche 924

Ok, now we are beginning to talk! This was what I thought was my first "real" sports car. True, my 280Z was a sports car, but where the 280Z was big and tried to power you over, this car was smaller and was very well balanced... all that and quicker, too. At the time, the 924 was the best handling car that I had every driven; and still remains one of my favorites to this day.

True, this was nothing more than an Audi with a Porsche emblem, but it sure was fun. It had a very faded out red-orange paint job and the interior was cheap, tan/brown, and pretty funky. The stereo wasn't even that good. Even with all the flaws, it still was a blast.

Q: If you liked it so damn much, why aren't you still driving it?
A:
The story of all my vehicles follows a similar story line... I like it, drive the hell out of it, I get bored (or brake something important in it), it gets parked, and then it goes down hill. I seem to recall it having some sort of starting problem and it would also sporadically just die and not re-start. That tends to put a damper on the good times. I ended up partially trading it in for my Dodge Ram 50.

Q: What lesson did you learn from having it?
A:
1. No matter how smart it sounds at the time, never ever put expired plates from another car onto one in which you intend to drive (I didn't have plates on my 924 for a short time). By the time the state patrol pulled me over (I was going kind of fast at the time, too) there were several marked cars lined up just chomping at the bit to search "a real life porsh" (only us snobs who actually have owned a Porsche refer to them using two syllables).
2. Stupid people who have not owned a Porsche don't know how to read or pronounce words correctly.
