Ulu Bali Pendita Perak A fine and rare example of a keris hilt from the island of Bali. Made of wood, it is fully encased with finely repoussed thick silver. In the form of a priest or pendita, the fine details needs added mentioning, showing fine facial and bodily features, and flowing clothes, with even a serpent headed walking cane.

Condition: Very good condition. Late 19th century. SOLD.

Ulu Cirebon Dewa Ivory 150 A very good and rare example from the northern Javanese coastal region of Cirebon. Made from elephant ivory, it is finely carved in the form of a deity in a squatting posture with fine facial features that has flowing hairs and a snake necklace.

Ulu Palembang Sumatra Ivory 301 A rare and fine example of a keris hilt from the southern Sumatran region of Palembang. Made of elephant ivory, it is finely carved with very minute floral motifs in the form of the jawa demam, typical of the Palembang’s styles.

Ulu Bugis Sulawesi Sea Ivory 151 Very good and large example from the southern Sulawesi regions of Bugis It is in the kerdas form typical of the regions styles. Made of sea ivory, most probably the sea cow or dugong.

Ulu Melayu Jawa Demam Sea Ivory 150 Another very good and rare example from the Malaysian peninsular regions. In the form called the jawa demam, it is made from sea ivory probably the sea cow or dugong, depicting a relief human figurine in a squatting posture.

Condition: Very good condition. Age:  Middle 19th century. Price:- US$490 excluding shipping. NEW.

Ulu Palembang Panjang Ivory  – A very good and rare example of a keris hilt from the southern Sumatran regions of Palembang. Usually fitted with the executioner's keris panjang, it is in the typical Palembang human relief form,  and is made of elephant ivory. The fine and minute floral and geometrical motifs with very deep carvings needs added mentioning. A buffalo horn ferrule or selut/mendak completes the hilt.

Ulu Bali (Man with Chicken) A very rare example of a keris hilt from the island of Bali. Made of hard darkwoods, it is finely carved in the form of a man feeding his chicken. The final red monochrome finish is still observed at places with good all round patina. Size of hilt is worth noting as it is larger than the usual Balinese hilts.

Ulu Bali Kurisi Perak 101 A very good and rare example from the island of Bali. Made of wood and fully encased with thick silver, it is in an insect like form called the kurisi. The smaller size suggests it is made for a smaller sized keris probably meant for feminine or boy’s use.

Ulu Bali Bahtara Banyu Tandok 110 - A very good and fine example of a keris hilt from the island of Bali. Carved from buffalo horn, it is depicting a Hindu deity called the Bahtara Banyu. In a semi squatting position, it is holding a club in one hand and a weapon of sorts in the other with carving details that shows facial and bodily features needs added mentioning.

Ulu Cirebon Deer Horn 103 A very good example of a keris hilt from the northern Javanese coastal region of Cirebon. Made of white deer horn it is finely and deeply carved with floral motifs that hide a human figurine.

Ulu Bugis Riau Sea Ivory 150 From the southern Sumatran regions of Riau Lingga, which has very strong Bugsi influences, it is in the kerdas form typical of the regions styles. Made of sea ivory, most probably the sea cow or dugong.

Ulu Madura Ivory 145 Another very good and fine example from the eastern Javanese island of Madura. Made from elephant ivory, it is finely and deeply carved with motifs that include a crown, a winged horse, a dragon, birds and feline motifs at the base, and epaulettes at the sides.

Ulu Bugis Sulawesi Kerdas wood 112A very good and rare example of a keris hilt from the southern Sulawesi regions of Bugis. Made from well selected kemuning woods, it is made in the kerdas, or pistol grip form, typical of the region’s styles, with deeply carved floral and geometrical motifs that includes the “endless swirl” at the back.

Ulu Madura Ivory 130 - A fine and very good example of a Madurese keris handle in the floral form, intricately carved of ivory. Carving details shows fine floral motifs, with the sides having epaulettes. The carvings are very deep, and from the sides and places, the carvings are pierced through.

Ulu Klewang Makara Tandok Kerbau 110 A very good example of a sword or klewang handle, widely used in Sumatra as well as Java. Made of buffalo horn, it is finely carved with pierced through works depicting the mythical creature called the makara.

Ulu Minang Kabau Jawa Demam Wood 130 A very good example of a keris handle from the Sumatran region of Minang Kabau. In the form of a squatting figurine called the Jawa demam, it is made from hard kemuning woods, and is finely carved with floral and geometrical motifs.

Ulu Tegal Dewa Wood A very rare example of a keris hilt from the northern Javanese costal region of Tegal. Made of hard woods, it is finely carved in the form of a squatting deity with bulging eyes and curly hairs.

Ulu Jawa Seri Rice Goddess Wood – A very good and rare example of a keris hilt from the central Javanese regions. Made from hard ebony woods, it is finely carved depicting a squatting female figurine called Seri, the rice goddess. The relatively small sized strongly suggest it made for a small keris for feminine use.

Ulu Bali Grantiman Tembaga A good and rare example of a keris hilt from the island of Bali. Made of wood, it is fully encased with finely repoussed thick brass, in the form called the grantiman.

Ulu Minang Kabau Kerdas Tandok Another very good and rather rare example from the Sumatran regions of Minang Kabau. In the rarer form found from the region, called the kerdas, or pistol grip, it is made from buffalo horn with fine lines carved at the right places.

Ulu Bugis Sumbawa Linggam Tandok A rare example of keris hilt from the eastern islands of sumbawa. Made of buffalo horn, it is in the Bugis influence kerdas form, but has strong Hindu influences in the representation of the Shiva's phallus, or Shiva's linggam.

Ulu Madura Wood 129 A very good example of a keris hilt from the eastern Javanese island of Madura . Made of very well selected woods with natural flashing grains, it is very well carved with pierced through works at the sides, with motif typical of the region’s style.

Ulu Cirebon Dewa Horn - A rare example of keris handle from the northern Javanese coastal region of Pesisir, Cirebon. Made of buffalo horn, and finely carved with floral motifs that hides the relief form of a Hindu deity. This style is very typical of the region's still although Muslims, but retaining  certain Hindu elements.

Made of hard and dark woods, it is finely carved in the form of a Hindu deity. This style is very typical of the region's predominantly Muslims, but still retaining certain Hindu elements.
