Ulu Cirebon Ganesh 122.

Ulu Cirebon Ganesh 122 – Another very good and rare example of keris handle from the northern Javanese coastal region of Pesisir, Cirebon in origin. This keris handle is made of hard and dark wood, carved in the relief form of the elephant god Ganesha, with pierced through carvings at places. Due to Islamic influences, many of these handles "hide" physical features, retaining some of the Hindu beliefs. Carvings are very deep and are pierced through at places.

Condition:
Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece,  from our experience and knowledge should go back to the late 18th century.

Dimensions: Please see top left hand corner picture.

Price:- US$95 excluding shipping.
