It is further said that for his brother( or possibly just a very good friend, relationship is not clear) he forged a magical three sided SAMPO. This marvelous , easily portable tool could grind money, corn, and salt. It was supposed to buy a Bride for his brother(friend?) Vainamoinen. However when things didn't work out with the prospective in-laws, it was stolen by them. A chase ensued and the Sampo was lost at sea. Because at the TIME all waters on earth were fresh, and because the seas are born of rivers born of lakes, and because seas often flowed to OCEANS, this is why seas and Oceans are salty to this very day. The Sampo is still grinding out salt. Salt being necessary for LIFE among humans and other earth bound creatures..this is one of the great and lasting benefits we have today thanks to this great Finnish deity. Thus to US it may be said..ILMARINEN (ILMARI) is responsible for "the salt of the earth"!
Ilmari also took BEST JR. Puppy 2 out of three shows at Battle Creek Dog show along with Best Puppy in Breed the last day of the All Breed show.
Ilmari took Best Jr. puppy at the National as well.
