Indie film "Kalayaan" focuses on lonely soldiers in Spratlys

Three years ago, Adolf Alix Jr. was already conceptualizing a film that would be shot in the
Spratly Islands (also known as the Kalayaan group of islands). This group of islands located
off the southern coast of Palawan is being claimed by China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and
the Philippines.

The award-winning director is now in the process of securing permits to shoot on the island
of Pag-asa, one of the islets in the Philippine-occupied area of the Kalayaan group of
islands.

Adolf tells PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) the plot of his upcoming movie Kalayaan.
"Tungkol siya sa buhay ng mga military... on their lonely life kasi three months silang nagii
-stay dun. Kuwento siya ng isang soldier na supposed to be paalis na ng island pero nag-stay
dun dahil na-extend yung duty niya. So, kuwento siya ng loneliness." trans: It's about the
life of the military, they are lonely in their three months of duty in the island, this is a story
of one soldier who was supposed to be go off duty but his stay was extended. So this is a
story about loneliness.

Why did he choose Lao-Australian actor Ananda Everingham to be the lead character in his
film? "Nameet ko si Ananda sa Bangkok Film Fest. Naghahanap siya ng puwedeng gawin
outside [his country]. So noong nag-usap kami, sabi ko bagay sa kanya yung role kasi
mukha naman siyang Filipino. So mag-aaral siyang mag-Tagalog." trans: I met Ananda at
the Bangkok Film Fest. He was looking for a project that he could do outside of his country.
That's why when we talked I told him that the role suits him cause he looks like a Filipino.
So that's why he is going to study Tagalog.

Working primarily in Thai films, Ananda is best known for his lead role in the 2004 horror
film, Shutter (Thai version).

Star Magic talent Joem Bascon and theater actor Arnold Reyes will also be part of Kalayaan,
Adolf's eighth directorial project.

In other news, Adolf will be attending the 10th Festival de Cinema Asiatic de Barcelona
where Tambolista (international title: Drumbeat) is competing later this month. The 2007
Cinema One entry starring Jiro Manio, Sid Lucero, and Coco Martin tells the story of a
young boy who dreams of getting his own drum set.

Aside from Tambolista, other Filipino films that will participate in the Barcelona Asian Film
Festival include Foster Child, Tribu, and Pisay.

The most artistic among F4, Zhu Xiaotian is nominated as Best Supporting Actor for "Tokyo
Trial" at the Golden Rooster Hundred Flowers Award. Zhu Xiao Tian on the phone line in
Taipei said modestly to the reporters, "being in competition with veteran actors with hard
background and who are already mentors like Bao Guo Chen, Zheng Xu, and together with
talented Jay Chou, I think I already won being included with them. "

Zhu Xiao Tian Plays Xiao Nan In Tokyo Trial

With idol drama "Meteor Garden",Zhu Xiaotian in Taiwan has gained alot of followings and
the youthful drama has started his introduction to mainland market. "Tokyo Trial" is an
excellent opportunity to this talented young man to make it from where he has began. "Film
and TV dramas are really very different, when meeting the crew, I am very worried and
pressured that I would mishandle the main theme of the film, and performing with Liu
Songren , Eric tsang, Kenneth Tsang who are my mentors, taught me a lot. I suddenly
understand that being with the old actors is all about acting, no matter what type of roles
they play, they are so natural at it, no matter how hard it can be. "

Zhu Xiaotian was recently in the United States , won Shuaichao and Taijiquan
championships, reporters asked him if he would be diverting his focus in life. Zhu Xiaotian
claimed that martial arts is at present the love of his life, but he still would not give up
showbusiness, it seems that he has adjusted to the idea that life and career can be very
complementary.

He told reporters he loves making movies very much, actually there are alot of scripts at
hand, but because of the film "Tokyo Trial", he is very careful in making film choices. In
September, F4 will have a reunion concert, Zhu Xiao Tian will then be very busy. But we all
look forward to seeing him soon, whether in music or films.

normal size man (that is 170cm tall and weight 70kg), I can manage 2 to 3 without any
problem. However, Kung Fu learners do not voluntarily take the moves because that may
cause too much harm."

Fans worried that he would give up as F4 because of Kung Fu. He replied, "As long as the
audience desire, F4 will always be there." Being F4, it earns money. Nevertheless, invest

Zai Zai on Ken:

Talking about entertainers from Taiwan trying to develop in Mainland, China and can?t
adapt to the situation; most specially Zhu Xiao Tian who was criticized not too long ago by
netizens; Zai Zai says attitude decides everything. ?Xiao Tian and I are very familiar with
each other, I know his character, he is a very direct person, and sometimes he talks in a
way that could make people around him misunderstand. But I have been his friend for many
years, and I understand him very well. No matter where we go with our careers, respect for
each other's work is very essential. Let time speak for itself, let?s not worry about the
views of people at this point only.

Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Gets together to Gain Feelings in MV

The night before, F4 was rushing to film the latest MV of Ti Yan. All four of them spend the
night to film for 8 hours, tiring all of them out and having different "experiences". Jerry
Yan's spirit helped to bring up the atmosphere, holding on to Vanness and singing
"brokeback" loudly. Zaizai picked up a reporter's camera and started snapping around to kill
his time. Ken practises his skills and not forgetting to put on his lipstick to bring back the
image.

Yesterday, the lights at Hua Shan Yi Wen Te Qu was really brightly lited. F4, splited into 2
groups started filming from afternoon and only finished filming at 2am. There was even a
luxurious car that allowed them to enjoy being bigshot both in and outside the MV. When
Jerry gave a very depressed look while filming, Vanness walked towards him smiling and
Jerry had his hand over Vanness shoulders, it seemed like they were very into it. Towards
the end, they looked at one another, reminding people of Brokeback Mountain.

Ken, who was very worried about his own "shui zhong" (water retention?) problems, seemed
to be very down. He was either alone in the resting room using his mobile phone and
practising his Taiji exercise. Just before filming the MV, his make up artist put on a little
lipstick for him to look better on screen. Zaizai was so tired that he kept yawning and used
the camera and went "secretly snapping" to bring his own spirits up.
