“Tokyo Trial” Commemoration Day
Screening
For the commemoration of Far East International Military Affairs Court
Tribunal’s 60th year, they invested more than 30,000,000 RMB for this
epic film, a few days ago “Tokyo Trials” was completed. This reporter
learned of this yesterday, this film is definitely going to be shown on
August 15, the commemoration day of the Japanese surrender. Beginning
June, the lead actors will begin propaganda activity for the movie.
Nanjing City, who suffered a lot during the Sino-Japanese War, will be
the focus of the propaganda activity.
"The Tokyo War Trials" which made known for the first time the incidents
that happened during the Far East International Military Tribunal, this
trial also brought Hideki Tojyo and other war criminals to court, it is
directed by Gao Qun Shu; Zhu Xiao Tian, Lin Xi Lei, Zeng Zhi Wei, Liu
Song Ren, Ying Da and others star in this film.
For a true to life portrayal of incidents in the court trial, English
and Japanese language was used in the scenes or sometimes Chinese and
Japanese, for instance Zhu Xiao Tian and Ying Da were chosen for the
Japanese and English. The rumored sweethearts Zhu Xiao Tian and Lin Xi
Lei play the parts of a star-crossed lover. Liu Song Ren and Ying Da
play the part of Chinese judges; Zeng Zhi Wei plays the part of a war
veteran. But after the preview in Beijing, because of Zhu Xiao Tian's
idol style background (status) it caused questions from some movie fans.
"The Tokyo War Trials" was previously set to screen last May 3 as it was
the Far East International Military Tribunals 60th anniversary, but
because of the producers decision they finally decided to screen it on
August 15. It is reported, that this film used a lot expensive (in
price) original historical scenes which were bought from US, Holland.

He Unforgettable
History of a Faded Out Chapter
Xiao Tian in The International Military
Tribunal for Far East
No news has been heard from Xiao Tian for a
while. His sudden appearance in Beijing Peoples Assembly Hall for
The International Military Tribunal for Far East was a complete
surprise. Seeing him in a nice suit with a beard, I wondered what role
he will take in this movie that was made to celebrate the 60th
anniversary of the victory against Fascism. This time the F3 stand
by him become Tsang Jiang (Kenneth), Lau Song Ren (Damian) and Tse Kwan
Ho. Xiao Tian appeared to have become much mature. Later on, we were
given an exclusive opportunity to visit Xiao Tian at the studio where we
urged to find out more details.
Xiao Tian, the objective eyes
The fictional role act by Xiao Tian is a
Journalist named Xiao Nan. He witnessed this vital litigation from a
viewpoint of an observer. He is thus served as the objective eyes in
this movie, leading others to explore the historical facts. It will
definitely be an asset to Ken for collaborating with numerous
knowledgeable actors with performance beyond scenes from usual idol
dramas.
Question: What kind of person is he in this
movie?
Ken: Actually this is a fictional character
who is set to be a Chinese. Although his family died in war, he did not
directly experience the battle. That is why he was able to look at this
war with an objective viewpoint. Since this is a historical story, one
ought to judge it objectively.
Question: What is the most attractive part
of this role?
Ken: When I received the phone call for
this project, I was in
Taiwan. Actually, I
was on my way to diving, carrying my full set of equipments. They told
me that this will be a very touchy film and ask me to decide weather I
should accept the offer. Hence, I request to take a look at the
storyline. At that time, I was given an incomplete script. Finally I
decided to accept the offer. First of all, it is a very meaningful
movie. Secondly, its cast is extremely attractive. It allied Tsang Jiang,
Lau Song Ren and also Tsang Chih Wei. Originally, they planned to invite
Huang Chiu Sheng rather than Tsang Chih Wei. Unfortunately the former
encountered time conflict and cannot make it. The project sounds quite
good so I signed to join.
Question: As you have mentioned, this is a
fictional character. So what is the meaning of it?
Ken: That is to look at the history
objectively. After all, movie is a form of entertainment. If it were
solely for inspiration, it'd be better shooting documentary. Therefore,
this film has to take into account from an entertainment perspective so
as to enhance its attractiveness.
Question: There is an age gap in between
you and this character. Will it be under a special design?
Ken: This role is about 3 to 4 years older
than me. Considering his background, I did not design him to be a
bearer. He did not personally experience the war, nor had he faced death
before his eyes in the battle. It was until later that he witnessed
others got killed during his work, including his first lover. In fact,
he lacked in-depth understanding at the beginning. Nonetheless, being a
journalist, he did have certain exposures. He tends to observe this
trial as a bystander. Somehow, he is rather ingenuous and was
unavoidable from impacts. He went through series of incidents which
changed him a lot, included killing Kitano after Kitano killed Yoshiko.
That was a big swing.
Question: How do you convey the feelings of
a mature man in terms of intonation and body motion? Perhaps you
considered yourself to be matured man?
Ken: I don't know. (Pondering..)
Honestly, I'm only 26. Often, I don't think too seriously. I started
working at my early years and seldom had chances to get spoiled. It is
no use to make it up. (Laughed¡ That piece is absent from my character.
At my present age, I believe everything is a kind of process. It is not
necessary to pretend or out perform what is required at this age. To my
understanding, it is an opportunity for me to work with my instinct.
Question: Will the relationship between
this character, Yoshiko and Kitano fall into a tragedy?
Ken: I believe war is a misery. All three
are indirect innocent victims who were sacrificed by the war. Without
the war, their story will be different and I would be the only one left
behind. (Laughed)
Question: Have you done a lot of studies in
regards to the history of this great trial of the 20th century?
Ken: We were given some war documentary
films on our first day of arrival. It is called Sang Zhung Wei Shei
Ming (To whom the funeral bell rang for). I watched 3 to 4 times back
and forth, marking details to get hold of the feelings. In regards to
the Japanese session, my part is better. I didn't have a lot of
Japanese dialogues. However, if I think it is better to present it in
Japanese, I'd request my Japanese teacher to put it in Japanese. For
example, during a conversation, it sounds much better to reply in
Japanese when it was started in Japanese. I also request my teacher to
translate some of my Chinese verses into Japanese when it suits for that
circumstance. Kitano, Tse Kwan Hao seems had almost all of his
conversations in Japanese. I heard he had to practice even when he was
eating and sleeping. That was a really a hard work. For my case, I was
able to manage it. Thanks to those Japanese TV channels in
Taiwan. It was not
too difficult for me. Of course, when it comes to Cantonese and
Japanese, they are absolutely different. He (Tse) will mark his
pronunciation in Cantonese. I told him that they were not the same. He
replied, Leave me alone, leave me alone.(Smile At that, I can
only said, 'Jia you! I'm afraid I can't help you too much.
Question: Coping with so many knowledgeable
actors, what did you learn this time?
Ken: I don't think it' a kind of
learning. Staying with them, I sneaka lot of things. It was not
only performance skills, but also superior ways to deal with
interpersonal relationships. That was truly my honour. Often, we blamed
the hardships during shooting. Actually it was not that bad. Most
importantly, we made a lot of friends. That was the treasure for me.
Question: You sounds having a cold?
Ken: I have been sick for several days.
Despite of the stuffy weather, I have to wear those furry clothes. That
was so hot! They suggested me to imagine it was snowing. I said, Okay.yeah...yeahyeah!

accused of the Japanese invasion to China and numerous crimes against
humanity across Asian countries. It will also reveal some concealed
information in relate to “9.18 incident”, "Nanjing Massacre" and
"Killing races".
The Chinese judge Mei Ju Ao and prosecutor
Hsiang Che Chun are portrayed by the well-known

Lau Song Ren (Damian) and Tsang Jing (Kenneth). Both are highly
respected for their expertise. Under the extreme hot 40-degree weather,
the two seniors also had to wear full suits with no exceptions. Their
images closely resembled to the real case Mei Jun Ao and Hsiang Che
Chun.
Popular artists Chu Xiao Tian (Ken) and Lin Xie

The Far East
International Great Trial ,Almost Done
30 Millions to revive the Far East International
Great Trial
Far East International Great Trial, the first
movie talking about the grand trial against Hideki Tojo and related war
criminals at Far East International Tribunal, is almost complete.
This 30 million project came along with an
extreme strong cast. It gathered 7 leading artists including Liu Song
Ren, Tsang Chi Wei, Tsang Jiang, Ying Da, Youth idol Chu Xiao Tian, Lin
Xie Lei and best male lead of Jin Ma Award winner Tse Jing Hao. Bai Xue
Wen, Guo Tao, Ding Yong Dai, Liu Wei Wei, Chu Hung Jia, Mok Qi, Zhou
Xiao Ou, etc. will also take part in it as guest co-stars. The director
is Gao Qun Shu, who directed the Annual Top audience rating awarded
drama Zheng Fu (Conquer). The producer proclaimed to invest their best
effort in presenting the first real epic movie in Chinese mainstream.
Director Gao Qun Shu is perceived as the
controller of high viewing rate due to directing the popular dramas like
Ming An Shi San Zong and Zheng Fu (Conquer). Far East International
Great Trial is Gao Qun Shu’s first project to advance him into movie
production. He takes a pragmatic approach as usual, just like making his
TV dramas. Gao Qun Shu expressed that he is not aimed at awards. The
survival of movie industry relies on ticket sales, not awards.
The story of Far
East International Great Trial begins with the well known international
litigation happened during 1946 to 1947 in Tokyo Japan. It is aimed to
reveal the true story about this litigation and address how difficult it
was to bring Hideki Tojo and 7 other war criminals into justice under
foreign pressures which only seek for individual interest. Major roles
lead by the Chinese judge Mei Ru (act by Liu Song Ren) and the
prosecutors Xiang Zhe Jun (act by Tsang Jiang) and Ni Zheng Yu (act by
Ying Da). The affairs in between a Da Gong Pao Chinese reporter Xiao Nan
(act by Chu Xiao Tian), the female lead Wada Yoshiko (act by Lin Xie
Lei) and a radical Japanese Kitano (act by Tse Jing Hao), who can’t face
the defeat, is plot to elaborate the fate of these characters.
Gao Qun Shu expressed that he took over this
project accidentally. This year is very unusual. Many people approached
him for shooting movie. However, ever since he bought the copyrights of
House of Daggers by Zhang Ping and Yi Chang Feng Hua Xue Yue De Shi by
Hai Yan, he concentrated his effort in writing a good script with the
scenarist. The script of Far East International Great Trail was
recommended by Zheng Quan, the producer of Crouching Tiger Hidden
Dragon. Gao Qun Shu re-built the Far East National Military Tribunal
according to historic references and secured this outstanding cast
shortly in a month right after accepting this job.
According to what has been told, the entire
shooting is done in the suburb of
Beijing. The crew
spent quite a while to re-construct the scenes of old Tokyo. It is not
easy to revive the environment and spirit of the past. Gao Qun Shu
emphases that he will drop all the symbolic props like Sakura, chignon,
Kimono, wooden clogs, etc. It will focus to bring out the chaos and
frivolity during the post-war period in Japan, especially the
environment under American’s control and interference in Tokyo. In
regards to costumes, it will be dominated with light and simple designs
with large cut back on using kimono. In respect to music and sound
effects, it will stress on pop songs at those old Tokyo days and news
broadcast sound tracks. All these setup are emerged to describe the
suppressed tension at that time. Based on the true case, the
jurisdiction was formed by 11 difference nations. Hence, the entire
movie will be in English and Japanese with less than one-third to be in
Chinese.
Taking up this project, Gao Qun Shu expects to
establish native production into the mainstream operation. On his
viewpoint, a stable and substantial coverage by native production in
mainstream market defines the maturity of a country’s movie industry.
Currently, only Americans and Koreans are able to reach this goal. Other
than the productions of Zhang Yi Mou and Fung Xiao Gang, the rest are
operated at a loss despite they attracted positive recognitions.
Hollywood
productions usually embraced with 3 crucial factors. One is the movie
theme which is recognized by the Government and the general public, such
as heroism, righteousness, struggling, devotion and sacrifice. One is
the strong artist cast. Lastly is the unpredictable Hollywood strategy
in presenting the story. The shooting of Far East International Great
Trial basically follows all these fundamentals.
