have been saying that at the beginning of this drama your temperament
was not good; you like to curse at people and act like a big shot, so it
made the original director of this drama walk out on you.
K: The media has exaggerated this; at that time,
my father’s health was in critical condition. It’s possible that my
temper was a bit different but I think that is understandable. But I
definitely didn’t lose m temper on location. Regarding the changing of
directors, I definitely have no control over this matter.
R: Oh, for the filming of this drama, you were
not present during the final hours of your father’s death. That is truly
very difficult.
K: That time I felt I wasn’t a filial son, I
felt very guilty. I know on the internet they have said that I was
losing control and I have been crying uncontrollably but actually I
didn’t. My father is a Gu Long fan, before he lapsed into a coma he saw
my photos, and he liked it. So I will persist until the end and will do
the best I can. I hope that I will be able to console my father in
paradise.
R: How is your relationship with Chen Hao Min?
K: Very okay, we are good buddies.
R: We heard that he just threw his dirty clothes
in your laundry basket; as a result you had to help him wash his
clothes, including his underwear and had to dry it under the sun.
K: That completely didn’t happen. I have never
encountered a drama that had so many problems, before the start of the
filming I was really having a hard time, but after thinking about it I
just decided to just forget it. If it can interest a lot of people to
pay close attention to the drama then that’s ok too.
Tokyo Trial: Who said
idols can’t act.
R: It was your first time to act in a historical
film, did you feel some pressure?
K: No pressure at all. To act in a film as long
as the role is good then it’s ok.
R: Prior to this movie, did you understand this
part of history?
K: Although I have lived
my life in
Taiwan, however my
native place is Nanjing. But what happened there 60 years ago and what
experiences they went through, the holocaust, it was a history full of
blood and tears that part I don’t know. Acting that part in the movie,
only did I have deep and profound feelings regarding that incident. I
think the accomplishment of one Chinese man, we will forever remember,
we should constantly strive to improve, so that we won’t be taken
advantaged of.
R: Some people have
criticized you because you have a
Taiwan accent of Mandarin and have said that it was
inconsistent to the central theme of the story?
K: At first the director arrange for someone to
dub my lines, but that person didn’t dub the Japanese lines very well,
his pronunciation wasn’t good and it didn’t really make much of a
difference. So finally, they decided that I would be using my own voice.
Actually, it was also because I can speak Japanese that got me this
role.
R: In the movie the story your story and that of
Lin Xi Lei wasn’t the focal point in the movie.
K: Correct, the director just added a little
emotion in the film, it is hoped that my participation in the movie will
give the audience a fresher perspective and it wouldn’t make the film so
depressing.
R: How do you evaluate your performance in the
movie?
K: I don’t evaluate my own acting; the audience
should give the appraisal.
R: Prior to this you have always appeared in
some idol drama, this time you appeared in a different kind of film
won’t this affect you?
K: Actually, I feel that the only difference is
the size of the screen.
R: It’s actually very rare to see an idol in
this kind of film, and everyone doubted the director’s choice in using
you.
K: Each role exists for a reason, who said that
idols can’t act in this kind of film?
R: Did acting in the film bring you good
results?
K: Of course, acting in any kind of role will
give you some benefits, and acting in this movie gave me a lot of
benefits. I learned a lot in this film. It made me understand a lot
about Chinese history, it also aroused my love for country. It gave
people a lot to think about, it has a lot of significance and meaning.
Acting in this film gave me a lot of responsibility and a sense of
achievement.

ZAI TALKS ABOUT F4 & Vanness
- Ask: When you are together with F4 members, seems the 3 of them are truly cheerful with smiles as if they are really happy?
- Vic: Not at all, they are only trying to pretend to be happy! (Laugh)
- Ask: To the 3 of them, it seems you are their ‘medicine’ , how do you feel towards that?
- Vic: I am only laughing with them (Laugh) Actually, everyone do have difficult moments during work, we just try to joke around to ease the stress
- Ask: From your point of view, not even being notice from fans, where exactly does F4 members’ charm come from?
- Vic: Everyone of us just wanted our fans to be able to see 100% of our charm. But during work, we will re-discover ourselves and there should be more areas that maybe even we do not know. For example for this time for my DVD and Pictorial book, my upcoming work, maybe there will be some new areas that I may discover on myself, so I will continue to keep re-discover myself.
- Ask: Now that F4 had their own solo work and events, how do you all keep in touch with each other?
- Vic: Sending birthday wishes is a must. For example, recently for Vanness birthday, we went out together for a meal! Lately, we are having much less time to spend together, like I may be in Taiwan while the rest of at somewhere else, miss out on each other many times. This time I flew in from HK to Tokyo, it happen the morning before I set off here, Vanness had just arrived HK. He gave me a call once he had reached and then I got to know he was staying in the same hotel as I was. So after I get off the phone, I immediately went to Vanness room and both of us chatted till it is dawn. We rarely have such opportunities, that day was really happy!
- Ask: What do you both chatted about?
- Vic: Vanness will bring lots of DVD when he had work in overseas, so that when he has freetime, he will stay in hotel to watch DVD. That night, it is the same, we started off watching DVD movie, then I suddenly remember something and asked Vanness, “do you have that recorded DVD of your Japan concert?”, he answered ‘Yes, I brought’. Then I continue to say, ‘then I want to watch that, why hide it from me’, Vanness answered ‘not nice to show you’ He was obviously shy to show it to me (Laugh). ‘What is there to be shy about’, I went on to persuade him, finally we are watching the concert DVD. While watching that, we chatted a lot. Due to the DVD lasted 2-1/2 hours, after that it was dawn already (Laugh). I had to set off to Tokyo, so I quickly went back to my room to tidy my luggage for the trip.
- Ask: So did not get any sleep the whole night?
- Vic: I guess Vanness had prepared to accompany me till dawn, so I did not plan to sleep. Furthermore my flight to Tokyo was very early that morning, worrying that I may overslept, thus, I am keeping awake all the while.
- Ask: What is your comments after watching Vanness’ solo concert DVD?
- Vic: It was great! At March this year for the F4 concerts, Vanness’ performance was already very good, this time at Tokyo was even better, better than he was in HK. But when we were watching the Tokyo concert DVD, Vanness will fast forward all his talking portions, he fast forwarded many times, so I asked why he did that, he said ‘Not nice to show you’ (Laugh). Vanness said many times that the portions where he spoken Japanese, not nice to show others on it, I said ‘But I want to watch, just let the DVD play at the normal speed!’, he replied ‘ok, then…be it’ Finally I get to watch everything. Spent 2-1/2 hours (Laugh)
- Ask: Have you notice anything special?
- Vic: During the recent F4 concerts, Vanness had been trying to say there are room for improvement to have a better performance. I felt this is a very wonderful thinking. While we are putting 100% effort to do a job, after it is done, being able to look back to review what are the areas that we need to emphasis on and to improve further when we get to do it next time, we will be able to get a more perfect end-results, getting more ideas here n there, etc…I felt I can use also use this method to make myself ‘grow’ ‘too.
- Ask: What do you think of your nickname being ‘rain god’ where everyone knows of this?
- Vic: Yes. (Laugh), Tokyo’s weather had been gloomy lately, I think It is due to my presence that it started to rain. *sigh* Me being the ‘rain god’ is rather widely known here? (Laugh). It is a common joke among my fans and F4 fans (Laugh). When Vanness depart from Beijing to HK, there was a rainstorm, his fans will jokingly say, ‘must be due to me being around for work taking place in Beijing that caused the rainstorm’
Huh (Laugh), but I guess it is because Vanness fans also wanted to see me! If this is the reason, I think they will think of me whenever it rains. (Laugh) If I am really that powerful, then our fans will not need weather forecast no more!

Zhu Xiaotian & Hu Jing Photographed In An Intimate Way
These picture was taken at Hengdian on National day. Filming site of Chuluxiang. It was taken by somebody named Hu, a tourist touring Hengdian filming site. Hu said he saw a two filming personality of chuluxiang in an intimate way. Caught in the picture was Zhu Xiaotian & Hu Jing. Though they were always vigilant towards paparazzi. these pictures was caught to spread rumours again.
It is said that Hu used a digital camera to take this using video frequency function. You may see that Zhu Xiaotian is quite close with Hu Jing in the picture. There is also rumours that everytime before filming Zhu Xiaotian will bring a big paper bag of snack for Hu Jing. and as soon as there is an intermission, the two will be found talking & laughing merrily together. sometimes Zhu Xiaotian will flushed at Hu Jing to make a kiss _expression, Hu Jing will then return it with a hand signal.
Because of this stolen shots,The dramatic team staff expel the tourist, but both of them later discovered that the tourist still took photograph. He was finally expelled.
