| Maine: Farm Related Plates |
| Maine 1956 Farm Issue. These were first issued in 1955 to farms for use on their vehicles. All plates of this era through 1999 carry the small "F" prefix. Tab slots were used for yearly validation tabs like on passenger plates. These plates were made on aluminum. These plates also carry the standard Maine die set. |

| Maine 1962 Farm issue. These new plates were issued in 1961 and replaced all previous black on yellow plates from 1956. The numbering series was restarted. This plate was made on steel rather than aluminum. These also carry tab slots for yearly tabs. |
| Maine 1976 (74 base) Farm issue. I dont have a '68 plate right now so i'm jumping to 74. These plates replaced all yellow 1968 base plates. The number series was again restarted. During the life of this plate the numbering series reached close to the 30-000 series before being replaced. |
| Maine undated Farm issue (circa 1988). Starting in 1987 the Black on White plates were replaced by these lobster plates which was the new general issue. These again also feature the standard dies and the "F" prefix. The numbering series picked up where the black and white series left off. |
| Maine 2000 Farm issue. Starting in 1993 the die set was changed to these narrrower dies. All plates produced after 1993 would carry these dies. Again the "F" prefix would be used however for the last time on the life of the lobster plate. The number format reached about the 60-000 to 61-000 series. |
| Maine 2000 Farm issue. Starting July 1999 the Chickadee plate would be issued to replace all lobster plates. They feature the image of the state bird and flower. Unlike the passenger plates the trees at the bottom are removed for readibility. The "F" prefix used since 1956 has been dropped and replaced by the embossed word "Farm" at the bottom. The numbering series began about the 65-000 series, making this a fairly early registration number. |
