Maine 1968 issue. These new reflective yellow plates were issued in 1967 and replaced the 1962 base plates.. Notice the date tab slots are still cut out which was kind of weird because the tabs were discontinued. The 1969 would be the first sticker to be used on a plate in Maine. Windshield stickers would be used during the war years in 1943 and 1947.
Maine 1970 issue. At the begining of the 403 series the date tab slots would be removed as they were no longer needed. This was also the begining of the clockwise sticker rotation system.
Maine 1969 issue. At the begining of the 395 series, the embossed "68" was dropped but the date tab slots still remain. The slots would remain until the end of the 402 series. Why they both were not removed at the same time is beyond me.
Maine 1972 issue. Nothing really fancy here either. A Black on white sticker chosen for this year.
Maine 1973 issue. Around the 688 series of plates the sticker box guide bar was removed with was a dumb thing because the 73 sticker was to be placed there. If you look at the back you can see where the die was cut off. Oddily enough the sticker box would return on the begining of the 1974 base and later dropped again.
Maine 1971 issue. White on Green sticker chosen for this year. Nothing fancy, bout halfway through the all numeric numbering sequence. Thanks to Dave Nicholson for finding me this nice example.
Maine 1968/73 issue. Since this series issued appx 100,000 plates per year I was able to do one one plate per number series without using up all my page. This is a nice 3-digit plate that went the distance of this base. Kinda cool I think.
Maine 1968/69 issue. Again the tab slots are still present although no longer needed. These would eventually disappear in the process of making new plates.
