Maine 1957 issue. The state chose red for the 1957 tab. Earlier in the series the embossed "56" would be dropped as it was no longer needed.
Maine 1958 issue. A green tab was chosen for this year. The tabs are made of aluminum with the color having like a plastic coating over the embossed date. Plates of this era were also made of aluminum.
Maine 1960 issue. Most of the later run of this era of plates, the state changed material to this heavy galvanized steel. At that time the boltholes were made larger and the date tab would be moved to the left of the bolthole instead of underneath the bolthole. A dark blue tab was chosen for this year.
Maine 1961 issue. This is another galvanized steel plate. This format of plates would be used through 1967. An orange tab was used this year and the only year that an orange tab would be used.
Maine 1959 issue. For this year the state chose a white tab and would be the only tab that would be white. This plate is a little bit more faded than the other ones that I have scanned on here. It took me quite a while to find a decent example of this plate.
