The catastrophic loss of humane standards in European society took place after the prolonged political and economic crisis in the 1920's. After the defeat in World War II, Germany became a democracy. The costs of the war caused rampant inflation; almost 5 million were unemployed. Nationalist parties and the newly founded National Socialist German Woker's Party blamed the democratic constitution. But above all, mostly the Jews were being blamed. The Nazi party, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler gained more votes in every election. The Nazi's pursued their political aims with aggressive propaganda and violence. In the elections of 1932 the NASDAP becomes the strongest party. On January 30, 1933, Hitler is named Reich Chancellor. In February, his democratically elected government passes a law suspending civil rights and political freedoms. In March, the government was empowered to rule without parliament to pass laws and govern by decree. Germany became a dictatorship ruled by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. Under Hitler and his perpetraters, Germany entered an era of utter darkness which involved not only Germany, but most of Europe; and because of the conflict that emerged, the rest of the world as well. The years 1933 through 1939 brought about the Nazi revolution and the establishments of a totalitarian police state under Adolf Hitler. This wind up in the persecution and near extermination of the Jewish people in Europe, when six million perished in Hitler's concentration camps. World War II started in full force when the Nazis under false pretense, invaded. In the end if good judgement was applied to the well being of individuals in Europe, then it may have decreased the extent of damage done during the world crisis. With careful consideration of the past events such as these hopefully they will never occur again in our lifetime. |
