My Live Journal Westville 2006
BAD NEWS! geocities is shutting down! this site will be going down within the next couple of months, before summer is over! i'll try to get this back up on another host, if i can find a free one i like and can work with. grab the list of events now while you can! as usual, the "number" dates may change, but the weekends usually remain the same each year! this also goes for the DeBary family site, as well as the Marion County Museum of History sites. keep googling for us, as i will have to have something back up before the summer is over.
This is the personal website of Jeremy DeBary, also known as Connor Campbell, the Kender, and most recently as "Mr. D" to my students. This website will feature some information about my family, friends, and myself and my interests, as well as some Florida and specifically Marion County and Ocala history. I am now a full-time student at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee working on completing my teaching degree. i plan on one day having a history classroom with my name on it! at the moment i am working on making some major changes and updates to this site, so please be patient with me as i get them between working full-time and going to school full time. for the latest information on me, and the best way to get a hold of me, click on the link to my Live Journal blog! and a big, huge, special thank you to all my friends who have been so supportive through this whole life-changing process! This just in! as of May 2008, i have been on Facebook! look for Jeremy Earl DeBary! Also, you can find my resume and educational portfolio at "mvhayv.weebly.com". (no, that wasn't a link, i'm working on it)

More from the Great Adventure reports from all the interesting situations i find myself in.Greetings!
all went well with the Second Seminole War event at Fort Marion (that's the Castillo de San Marcos for those not up with the "American" name for it) this past Saturday and Sunday! it was a one day event at the fort, with both Seminole and Territorial Soldiers present to introduce visitors to life in Florida during the early 1800s. i will be posting more here and in my live journal, at connor-campbell.livejournal.com . i will post a photo or two here, and more on my live journal once i get home tonight.
we are nearing the end of this years season, with only two events left to go.
this coming weekend in Gainesville the Morning Side Natuer center will be having their annual festival. Morning Side is a Civil War/ Reconstruction period functional farmstead, with livestock and authentic gardens. we will be set up as Seminole/Creek as usual, and there will be some soldiers present as well in addition to the regular staff of the facility. this is a fun event with live entertainment and good food! re-enactors, this is an invite only event, so please don't show up unannouced! inquiries will need to be directed to the Mornign Side Nature Center, run by the City of Gaineville, Fl. there are two school days (thurs-fri) and two public days (sat-sun). there is an admission fee to this park.
the final event of our season is Westville. this has become a long time favorite of all the re-enactors that go, as Westville is an 1800s style town, made up entirely of buildings and homes built before 1870 and rescued from around the state of Georgia rather than being torn down. each building is dis-assembled piece by piece, board by board, with each individual piece numbered and location noted. then the buildings are transported to Westville and reconstructed exactly as they were found.
Westville is located in the small town of Lumpkin, GA, about 30 miles south of Columbus, GA, and right on the Alabama border. nearby are the Providence Canyons, Kolomoki Mound Complex, and several beautiful state parks, including a nice marina on the Chattahoochee river. Come out and see the towns folk demonstrating period crafts, including a top-notch potter making some of the best stoneware i've seen! ( i come back with several pieces each year)
after that, our season ends until the Battle of Spring Garden Plantation at de Leon Springs State Recreation site in DeLeon Springs, FL, just north of Deland. de Leon will be held on the first weekend of August.
until next time, grand adventures, safe returns, and great stories to all and sundry! see you in history!
for the technically inclined, i am using the font "papyrus" on this website. i am creating the pages with a combination of microsoft frontpage and the built in editing feature of geocities. i have borrowed some background graphics from the website known as "Pieces of Eight", which is a website dedicated to the history of 17th century pirates. you can find them at http://pieceofeight.com/. they were listed as open to use.
