WESTVILLE 2006
Westville is a small historically reconstructed town set between the years of 1830 and 1850. It sits just outside of the small town of Lumpkin, Ga, about 30miles south of Columbus, Ga. Nearby are the Georgia State Parks Providence Canyon and Florence Marina, both of which are beautiful to see. The Florence Marina sits on the Walter George Lake, part of the Chattahoochee River on the border between Georgia and Alabama.
Westville is made up of buildings rescued from around Georgia and restored to as close to their original appearances as possible. with the exception of the courthouse (built in 1870), all of the buildings were built before 1850. Westville has events going on through out the year, including a 4th of July celebration that includes launching an anvil! Every year on Memorial Day, they hold a re-enactment of a battle that occurred during the Indian Wars in Florida and South Georgia. during this event, the Creek warriors come out of the woods and raid the town, only to held off by the militia, and then withdrawing totally at the arrival of the regular army.
