Building a computer is really not as hard as it seems.  Quite possibly, the hardest part is deciding what kind of system to build.  When deciding what to build, remember to keep a few things in mind:
  • How much do I want to spend?
  • How long do I want it to last?
  • What am I going to use it for; gaming, 3-D rendering, or just normal applications?

With some of these questions in mind, you can go out and buy the necessary hardware which includes most, but not necessarily all, of the following:

  1. Motherboard
  2. Processor
  3. Processor Fan
  4. RAM
  5. Hard Drive
  6. Video Card
  7. Sound Card
  8. Modem
  9. Network Card
  10. Floppy Drive
  11. CD-ROM Drive/ DVD-ROM Drive
  12. CD-Recorder Drive/ DVD-Recorder Drive
  13. Case
  14. Power Supply

Depending on what kind of system you want, you can often buy a motherboard with a built sound card, or often also a built in video card.  The CD-Recorder and DVD-Recorder are fully optional.  To learn more about these products, please click on the link at the right.  Also, If you buy a retail boxed Intel or AMD processor, the fan comes with the processor.
