The Rise of Western Civilization and the Fall of Natural Society
"I do not undertake war for private ends, but for the cause of national liberty. And since I must now accept my fate, I place myself at your disposal. Make amends to the Romans by killing me or surrender me alive as you think best"
(Caesar, quoting Vercingetorix)

The Druids were a major social, political, and religious element in Celtic society. When Julius Caesar defeated Vercingetorix at the Battle of Alesia it marked the decline of Druid influence in the Celtic world, the beginning of the end for shamanism and the beginning of the end for not only Celtic civilization, but for all of pagan Europe. Consequently, the fall of the Druids marked the rise of Western Civilization and through its rise the decimation of cultures that honored the Earth by accepting whatever bounty it offered bounty. The Romans accepted nothing but taxes and tribute.
