our trip to the great Southland; Phoenix, Las Vegas and Los Angeles
GO TO VACATION PAGE TWO
Well, we arrived...note the sun dial... it reads carpe diem (seize the day...)
...we visited our family in Gold Canyon, AZ for a couple of days
These are the Superstition Mountains just northeast of their home
the minimalist desert landscaping is low low maintenance... an idea I could get
behind...
my folks
we were so happy to see them
After a torrential summer thunderstorm, a night bloom appeared on a cactus in
the backyard
...it was a very good sign
Then it was on to Vegas...
on the way, we saw Hoover Dam (under unusually tight security)
The Dam is low due to fire-fighting season, I heard someone say...
I had been travelling at an excessive speed on US93 from Phoenix to Vegas,
and was stopped by the most genial State Trooper, an Officer Winters, who merely
admonished me and urged me to ease up off the pedal...when we got to the next
town, Wikieup, AZ, we stopped a while at the Trading Post and got a most
appropriate photo, pictured here
...and I didn't exceed the speed limit by such a considerable margin for the
rest of the 1500 miles of travel...
"Flagstaff Arizona, don't forget Winona... Kingman, Barstow, San
Bernardino...
at the Hard Rock, John Paul George and the drummer, uhhh, Ringo ...the original
bobbleheads, apparently
my wife... and Elvis' Jacket... no seriously, the Rolling Stones display
the new Maloof Brothers casino, west of I15 off the strip -- next to the Rio
Vegas comes alive at night blah blah blah...
they call me "Double Down"
...we saw a show (Carlin) had a couple
nice meals (Cafe Lago at Caesers and the MGM) had a nice streak at BlackJack
and hit the road the second morning at 6:30... because it's a long way to Los
Angeles...
We were guests of a friend and business associate of mine, Eunice, who
generously shared her home for our stay...
some friendships bring such joy mere words fall short
Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach
and one block up from the beach
Dodger Stadium is celebrating its' 40th anniversary
LA: a mere 7 rainouts in forty years...
my wife wore her RedSox cap...
good ballgame; Dodgers got two late to come back and beat the hated
Giants, with Barry Bonds out of the lineup
