Out - In - Cha Cha Cha
Hi everyone,
Travis is back in the hospital again! Last night he developed a fever,
which has been creeping up today (got to 103.5). He's pretty tired - generally
doesn't feel great. I guess this is just more of the unknown stuff that
follows BMT. The team of doctors and nurses on rounds stood around saying
"It might be this, it might be that, but we don't know. We'll have
to wait and see how he does while we try these medications." So we
wait.
He'll go for a CT scan this afternoon to rule out some possibilities.
And they're doing cultures to see if a bacterial infection. The doctor thinks
it's likely GVHD (Graft Versus Host Disease - when the marrow goes after
the new "foreign" body). If so, hopefully just a brief flare up
and it will go away (?). Travis' counts are down - likely related to this
stress on his body. For you counts watchers: WBC 1.4 (was up to 5.6 at one
point), Hemoglobin 10.6, Platelets 36, Creatinine 0.8 (still abnormally
high -- was 1.3 yesterday - something related to kidneys) and ANC 1.1.
Mostly Travis is just bummed to be back in the hospital and back on IV
fluids and meds, (except still oral cyclosporine) since he's having trouble
keeping meds down and hasn't been eating and drinking much lately. No fun
being hooked up again.
So that's the news from here. Thank goodness for Putt-Putt, Blue's Clues
(computer) and Mario, Banjo and Diddy (Nintendo 64). These hours get boring
even for this good natured little guy.
So that's the news from here - Two steps forward, one step back, ya da
da da da da da da da (sung with feeling). Sorry - the sense of humor is
a bit weak today. Lethargy has set in
Love from us,
Melanie, Joe, Travis and Spencer |
