At Texas Tech University on February 21, 1987 four women decided to organize a sorority that would benefit Latinas at the university.  The four women were Cynthia Garza, Nelly Flores, Irene Montoya, and Melissa Montoya.  After picking her top two choices, Lambda Sigma Chi and Kappa Delta Chi, Cyndi choose Kappa Delta Chi which allowed them to begin writing the a constitution based on love, friendship, and Christianity.
After approval of the constitution each founder took an office, with Irene being the first alumni advisor.  The next step in the founding of the Kappa Delta Chi was to carefully select new members.  The ten charter members were Theresa Reyes, Dahlia Cavazos, Doris Mendiola, Christella Rivera, Melissa Chavez, Maria Pondo, Suzanna Cisneros, Rocio Brisenio, Caroline Soto, and Mary Garza.  After the induction of the charter members, the sisters choose the official symbols and statements of Kappa Delta Chi, (purpose, motto, verse, color, flower and mascot).
On March 26, 1987 Kappa Delta Chi was asked by the university to host visiting college students.  This was their first unofficial service project. Kappa Delta Chi was then officially recognized on campus April 6, 1987, after much hard work and dedication.  In 1991 Kappa Delta Chi became recongnized nationally after the induction of the delta chapter.  On September 25, 1997 Kappa Delta Chi became a service-bases, non-profit corporation by the state of Texas and thus became know as Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Incorporated.
