| His farm in Lancester included the ground now occupied by the Brick Church and Public Buildings at Lancaster Center. When Lancaster was destroyed by the Indians in 1675-6, he removed to Woburn, and later to Dorchester. In 1682, he settled at Milton, Mas., and joined the Chaurch there with his wife on june 18, of that year. He returned to Lancester in 1685, remaining until 1689 or 1690, when he returned to Milton and settled at "Scotch Woods, nigh unto Brush Hill". He died the April 16, 1705. EDWARD HOUGHTON (3) sone of James (2) and (Mary Sawyer) Houghton, born at Lancaster in 1700; Married Nov. 16, 1727, Abigail Coye of "Promphret", conn. Their children, all born at Pomfret, Conn., were: 1. JAMES, born Dec 13 1728; married Sept 11, 1755, Phoebe Hold of Andover; settled in Union, Conn. Soldier in the Revolution. 2. EXPERIENCE, born Dec 25, 1730; married James Bartlett. 3. MARY, bornMay 7, 1733. 4. CORNELIUS, born Aug 10 1735. 5. NEHEMIAH, born March 23, 1738. 6. EDWARD, born April 16, 1740; married Olive Russel. 7. ASA, born June 1 1742; married June 23, 1768, Sybil Davis Brimfield, Mass.; settled in Union, Ct.,; removed to Wales, Mass., in 1779, and died there, April , 1829; aged 87 8. ELIJAH, (Town records say "Abijah") born 9, 1745 9. JONAS, born Jan.17, 1748; married Nov. 29, 1768, Sarah Abbott of Woodstock, Ct. HISTORY: EDWARD HOUGHTON (3) lived in Lancaster until his marriage in 1727, when he removed to Pomfret, Ct. His marriage is recorded both at Lancaster and Pomfret and the births of his children are recorded in the town Records at Pomfret. He removed to Union, Ct., in 1774, having purchased land there of Samuel Bertholomew, Aug.14, of that year. The same year (1774) He sold some land in Union to Thomas Houghton of Harvard, Mass., (formerly a part of Lancaster). Thomas and Edward were probably cousins. . Edward built the first Mill in that part of the country at a place in Union, later called "Lawsons Mills", where he resided. Edward Houghtons(3), son James (4) was a revolutionary soldier, and his sword is now in the possession of one of Edward's descendants, James S. Houghton of Whitingham, Vermont. Edward Houghton died at Union, Conn., March 15, 1778, and his wife Abigail died on the 30th day of the same month (march 30, 1778) 4. EDWARD HOUGHTON (4) son of Edward (3) and Abigail (Coye) Houghton, born at Pomfret, Ct., April 16, 1740; married ------ Olive Russel, who was born May 31, 1748. Their children, born at Killingly, Conn., were: 1. MOLLY, born Jan 6,1773; died Oct. 15, 1777. 2. ELIAS,, born Oct 9, 1774; married Sarah Gilbert. 3. OLIVE, born Aug 27, 1776; died june 29, 1803 4.
