Kevin Oriol: Bass Guitar, Vocals |
His parents have more to do with his music life than they'd like to admit. Sure their vision was to have Kev play as church organist, instead, he is one third part of the demonic groove core stylings of NYC's own Kill By Inches.
Because of his strict religious upbringing, he wasn't allowed to "hang out". Not wanting to spend time with his family or at religious services, he'd shut himself in his room and listen to the radio. He learned classical piano from private instructors, but learned to rock from early 70's classic rock and R&B. His musical taste then began to sink into the underground after hearing "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang one late, solitary night.
Break dancing, graffiti-writing, and "mc-ing" his way through high school, he religiously listened to Grand Master Flash, Curtis Blow, Run DMC, Public Enemy, and countless other rap groundbreakers.
But it really was Van Halen's 1984 album that changed the course of his life. Hearing the guitar wizardry of Eddie Van Halen influenced him to be in a band. He stopped taking jazz piano, bought a bass and taught himself how to play. His taste began to lean towards heavier music; Queensryche, Metallica, Anthrax, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies, Biohazard, Sepultura, and many, many more.
Kev has been playing bass in clubs, bars, high school gymnasiums, bowling alleys, and outdoor festivals for 17 years, tearing up every stage with energy and pure aggression, and there's no sign of stopping. With his 10 year+ rhythym partner, Steve Papa, and his new bestest friend and guitar teammate, Pete Sirianni, Kev is kicking ass with an all star team.
