Soap Crayons

A Fun project for everyone..great way to get clean too!

                           1 c Soap flakes
                           food colouring
                           2 tb hot water

Have one large bowl and several small bowls, one for each color. You
also need an ice cube tray with different sections, or containers to act
                       as small molds.

Put soap flakes in a large bowl and drop the hot water into the
soap flakes, stirring constantly. The mix will be very thick and hard
to stir. Spoon some of the soap into each bowl and color each
separately, adding the color by drops until the soap has the
consistency of a very thick paste.

Press spoonfuls of the soap into your molds and set the crayons in a
dry place to harden. They should take a few days to a week to
dry completely. When dry, remove from the molds and allow to dry for a
                       few more days before using.

Magnets

                      Glue
Small flat magnets (available at craft shops or the
craft sections of drug and general merchandise
                      stores)

Pick a jar lid and trace it on construction paper. Cut
out the construction paper circle and push it inside
the lid (you can put a little glue inside first if you
want). Now decorate the construction paper. Glue a
magnet on the backside of the lid. Stick it on the
                      refrigerator.

My Book

an inexpensive brag book or small size photo album
thin cardboard from cereal boxes or posterboard
                         small photos of the family
                         cutout pictures from magazines
                         scissors
                         glue
                         laminate
                         tape

Cut out pictures from magizines that your child would enjoy- toys, boats,
children playing or find all pictures related to a theme.

Use a photo on the front of the bragbook with cutouts involved
& print with the marker the title on a piece of white paper and
glue it on the front of the book.
Put laminate over it to protect the cover.

Make pages out of the cardboard by cutting it into several
pieces just a little smaller than the pockets in the bragbook.

Print the text on each page you just made at the top or bottom
                          of each page.
Use short sentences related to your photos or cutouts or your theme.
Ex.'s  Page 1 "Ben can ride a tricycle"
Page 2 "Mom is so proud of Ben"
Page 3 "Dad likes to bounce ben on his knee"
Page 4 ...Well you get the picture by now.

Next glue down the pictures to fit the text on each page.

Slide the pages into each clear pocket in the book.
Place a piece of tape lengthwise at the edges of the pages to
seal the pages in the pocket so your child can't easily remove
the pages. Your child will enjoy this special book about him/her!

optional; you can also use decopage glue such as Modgepodge to
create the cover for more durability. Let dry 24 hrs before creating
the book if using this method. It's more "professional" looking too if
                        you don't mind the wait.

                          wax paper

Lay out the shirt on the newspaper.
Squirt some of each color paint onto a sheet of wax paper,
spread each paint gob out about a 6 inch diameter.
Have your child place his hand on top of the paint evenly
(you may need to assist a younger child) and place their painted
hand down flat on the t-shirt at various places on the shirt while
re-painting their hand each time. Do 2-3 prints of each
color depending on the size of the shirt front.

                        * a special treat would be to make a shirt for yourself also, with

fabric painting pen putting your childs name & age.
