About Kay

My name is Kay Hornung, my husband and I have 3 children, a daughter of 20, and 2 sons one 18 the other 14.
We have lived in Harrow for approximately 20years.
I have been childminding for 15 years. This brings with it a wealth of experience, as I have looked after children from all age groups.
I have access to a car and am a member of the National Childminding Association.

 My Philosophy

I really enjoy being able to look after young children. I relate to them very well and feel relaxed in their company.
I share a child’s joy when they achieve something new and this, I hope helps their self-esteem and encourages them to try other activities they might not.
I work very closely with parents and take advice from other professionals. This I believe helps greatly in my understanding of the children.

This is how I think I can help children to become self-sufficient adults.

Talking to children from birth upwards is important.
Building a child’s self-esteem.
Making them feel that they are important as individuals.
Letting them know that their feelings are important.
Helping them to learn to take care of themselves, i.e. putting on shoes and coat.
Giving them enough time to complete any tasks they set  themselves so they can feel a sense of achievement.
Reading books or looking and talking about the pictures from  a young age.
The freedom to look at books whenever they wish.
Learning to scribble and then draw and on to colouring.
Introducing numbers into everyday routines.
Singing songs and rhymes at anytime.
Help them to mix well with their peers and other adults.

Childcare

Although I'm not their mother I care for them each day.

I cuddle, sing and read to them and watch them as they play.

I see each new accomplishment, I help them grow and learn.

I understand their language I listen with concern.

They come to me for comfort, and I kiss away their tears.

They proudly show their work to me, I give them the loudest cheers!

No, I am not their mother, but my role is just as strong.

I nurture them and keep them safe, though maybe not for long.

I know someday the time may come when I will have to part,

but I know each child I care for is forever in my heart!
