| "You WHAT???", Kevin yelped, grabbing his head at the loudness of his own voice, "when...where....WHAT??? You saw her??" "Whoa Kevin...man..I saw her in the coffee shop this morning. She was down there having breakfast with her friend", Luke replied, in as soft a voice as he could manage. Although at a different point in time, he would've taken great pleasure in making Kevin's head pound. "Did you.....ummm...did you talk to her?", Kevin asked. "Yes Kevin, I talked to her. I thanked her for being so cool with you last night." "Luke, did she....aaahhh....say anything about me? Did she .. like...er...say I was crazy?" "No...man...she didn't say anything like that. I think the lady has too much class to say something like that. But, Kev..she did ask how you were. Seemed really genuinely concerned." "Really? Wow...I'd like to get the chance to see her again...just to thank her. No one has been that concerned about me for a while now...and, especially someone that doesn't know me. Any idea why she's in town? Ya think maybe she's coming to one of the shows?" "I don't think so Kevin. She's probably here on vacation...or business...she sure doesn't seem to have a clue who you are." Kevin stood and walked to the balcony. How he wished he could just go down to the street and walk. Not have to take a body guard...just walk and think. He loved his career, he truly did. But, at times like this, he wished he was just invisible. Although now..he seemed almost TOO invisible. Kaylee didn't have a clue who he was....HE didn't have a clue how he could find her again. He chuckled and said, "I guess we're both clueless. We'd make a great pair!" At that moment, when Kevin stepped onto the balcony and looked down, he could've sworn he saw Kaylee. In fact, he swore she was in the same spot he was last night...at least from what he could remember. Kevin just stood and stared down. "Luke! C'mere....take a look...is that my mystery woman?" "Kev...you got great eyes man. That sure looks like her. I could go down and try to catch her.....KEVIN! Where do you think you're going??" Moving faster than he thought he ever could, especially with a hangover, Kevin ran through the room...grabbed his leather coat and took off running, out of the room and down the hall. Luke was right behind him. "Kevin! Wait! If you're going to do this, at least wait for me!!" Kevin flung the leather coat over his bare shoulders....in his haste he didn't even realize that he had not put his shoes on and in fact, had barely thought to grab the coat. He repeatedly pushed the elevator button. "Dammit! C'mon....move....hurry up!" Kevin's patience was wearing thin as he waitied for the elevator. When he couldn't stand it anylonger, he opened the stairwell door and took off running...practically jumping from landing to landing. He knew his knee would pay for it later, but right now he didn't care. Luke couldn't believe what he was seeing. Oh man, he thought, he's gonna be hurting. At least let it be worth it. Let it be her out there...and God, let her still be there when he gets there. "KEVIN! At least wait for me at the bottom....you can NOT go into that lobby alone! Understand?", Luke yelled. "Well, then hurry your ass up, Luke", Kevin said with practically no effort as he raced down the 14 flights of stairs. When the two men reached the bottom...Luke opened the door and fortunately they were off to the side of the elevators and thank GOD Nick and Howie were still in the lobby. The crowd was otherwise occupied..and for once..neither Nick nor Howie saw Kevin. He ran past the group of people out onto the sidewalk...hoping no one would notice him. He rounded the corner with Luke in tow, and as soon as he could...he yelled, "Kaylee!" And he looked around everywhere. "Dammit Luke! She's gone!" Luke put his arm around Kevin's broad shoulders and said..."C'mon Kevin....you can't stay out here. You don't have a shirt on...and you don't have shoes on either. Lets try to get you back inside .. we'll use this side door .. head back upstairs..and you can get ready for tonight, ok? We'll think of something....together. Dammit Kevin...I really wanted her to be here, too, I really did. We'll find her....somehow....we'll find her." Kevin let Luke lead him into the hotel, through the side entrance, and he was able to get back to his room without incident. "Luke....I have to find her. I need to tell her how much it meant to me....last night. Help me find her Luke....please", Kevin said, as he flung his coat off...and threw himself on his bed, "it meant so much to me. I need to thank her properly. And, ya know Luke, I felt something with her. She seemed to be hurting too." Luke glanced at Kevin, laying on the bed...arms over his head....chest heaving...and he knew that he'd have to do something to try to help him. The problem was .. WHAT?!?! |
