Born October nineteenth, 1970, Katrina Baker grew up in the rural Eastern Ontario village of Athens with her two brothers and one sister. Katrina, known as Katie to friends and family, graduated through her local school system and moved on to post secondary education in 1989. At that time, she attended Algonquin College in Ottawa Ontario and since then has been working in the Brockville area as a Dental Hygienist.
Married to husband Jeff in 1994, Katrina has two daughters, Sara (7 years)and Claire (3 years) as well as two step-children Chelsea, 19 and Cody, 15.
Growing up in a family of music lovers, Katrina has been exposed to a variety of musical sounds. She took piano and voice lessons as a child and more currently has studied keyboard, guitar, and more advanced voice. In 1994, her first performance as a soloist for a friends wedding set her singing career in motion. Since that time, she has sung at a multitude of weddings, social functions and dinners for various organizations. Katrina has also been involved in performances for the Upper Canada Playhouse and competed in musical festivals in Ottawa and Brockville. On every occasion she has come out on top of her division. Katrina's initial exposure to the professional music business came in 1996 when she traveled to Kitchener to sing back-up vocals on a CD demo for country singer Craig Curtis. Her experience with the studio sound and quality left her with the idea to someday try her own project. During 1997 Katrina organized, and with the help of accompanist David Runions, performed at two sold-out concerts to benefit her hometown. This overwhelming support gave Katrina the extra confidence boost to pursue her musical career further.
In the spring of 1999, Katrina decided it was time to take a chance and make her first CD. Over the next several months, she wrote songs, and made contact with a recording producer. During this whole process, Katrina also worked full time hours as a Dental Hygienist.
On December fifteenth 1999, Katrina traveled to Ottawa to pick up her first professionally produced and packaged CD. To date the CD has been very successful with over 80% of sales so far, along with several invitations to perform. In 2000, Katrina opened and sang a duet with up and coming country singer Johnny Ried, performed at the Athens Millenium Celebrations and at the Athens Cornfest Dance and sang her original tunes at the Brockville Figure Skating Show. That same year, she also performed an outdoor concert at the park pavilion by the river in Cornwall.
