More photos from our trip up country
Here's the ferry arriving at Bansang.  Note the cable to the right.  The ramp is a rickety affair, but it seemed to hold the vehicles ok.  Price is D40 ($2) per vehicle
Here we are hard at work, really putting our backs into it as you can no doubt tell!  You can just see the front of our truck at the right.  Behind Ben is Fanta, the 2nd wife of Kate's colleague Kibbe.  We are on our way to her house for Saturday night.
Fanta lives on the river, about 20 km down stream.  Here she shows us her view, and you may be able to make out the Tuubaab cruising boat anchored in the river behind them.  Sadly, no hippos to be seen today!

Photos of SDF at work on this trip to Basse
We met this man, surrounded by a large crowd in the street, and since he was waving a large machete at us (hidden behind all those leaves) we were pretty scared.  But our hosts assured us he was friendly, and he did let us take this picture.  Apparently its some celebration of villagers finishing work for a community project.  Much drumming, whistling and dancing.
Here we are with Kebbe and his wife Fanta at the stone circle of Wassau (The Gambia's answer to Stonehenge).  Apparently erected about 1000 years ago, they are thought to be burial sites.  See Mom, a bit of culture on a business trip at long last!
