This company is the brainchild of a twenty-something named Kate. She loves being crafty and domestic, but she is also an ambitious career girl. Kate is a busy, modern woman, just like you!
Kate has always been creative. She first began utilizing her creativity while in middle school, when she used "puffy paint" to decorate T-shirts and sweatshirts. Her friends and family were so impressed with her designs that they commissioned Kate to make T-shirts and sweatshirts for them. Kate started a small business, based in the garage of her parents' central New Jersey home, called Katie's Kreations. She modified the name a bit for this new venture.
Kate furthered her creativity in college, after joining her beloved sorority. Kate not only learned more crafty skills from her sisters, but also the all-important art of presentation. When Kate had the honor of being selected as a big sister to a new member, she made sure her little sister was showered with gifts, culminating in a beautifully decorated gift basket full of both hand-made crafts and store-bought items that was the envy of the whole group. One of Kate's many jobs for her chapter involved oversight of the social events planner. Kate was intimately involved in the details of planning both casual and formal events. She also was responsible for educating her sisters about etiquette and social responsibility. Learning about etiquette and educating others about proper customs (always encouraging and never condescending, of course) has become one of Kate's hobbies. Kate calls her Miss Manners book the "pink Bible" and is a loyal fan of the Etiquette Grrls.
Once Kate finished school, she set about redecorating her childhood bedroom in her parents' house from a girlie pink to a mature, warm beige, complete with flowing sheer curtains, French-style closet doors and decorative socket and switch covers. The two apartments Kate has lived in since moving out of her parents' house have been splashed with color. Kate believes a young person's home, rental or otherwise, should reflect his or her personality. She belives a $20 can of paint can work wonders! While Kate is not an interior designer, she does have fun decorating her own home and is always happy to help friends select paint chips and upholstery swatches.
Kate learned about event planning and being a proper hostess from her fabulous mother, and also from her sorority sisters. Kate's famous Posh Dinner Party is a legend among her coworkers and friends! Most recently, Kate guided a group of students at a local university in a decorating project that culminated in a big open house celebration. Kate set the agenda, approved the menu and wrote the ceremony to formally dedicate the house. Prior to the open house, she made a lovely brunch for her overnight guests. Kate had been thinking of starting a side business for a while, but it wasn't until she received some loving encouragement from her mother that Kate really got to work. This Web site is just the beginning of what Kate hopes will be a grand, fun, new adventure!
