Ritual
The practice of Wicca is based around many things, one of which is ritual. Rituals are a series of actions, thoughts, or words. They are done on Sabbats, Esbats, or anytime in between. Most rituals follow this order or an order similar to this depending on the occasion.
- Preparing Sacred Space
- Casting the Circle
- Calling Quarters/Elements
- Invoking Goddess and God
- Ritual Observance
This can be anything, meditation, tranceworkings, ritual enactement of a Sabbat, drawing down the moon, spellworking or simply a few moments to talk to one another.
- Energy Raising/Magick
In most cases this is the climax of the ritual. At this point magick is performed and the energy raised is sent of to create the desired results, which depend on the ceremony. This is not nesscesary, but is common.
- Earthing of Power
After performing magick, there is left over power in the air, and in the body. This power must be returned to the Earth or it will have bad side-effects. To do this many people have a simple feast, which can consist of elaborate cakes and mead, or merely crackers and water(our personal favorite!).
- Thanking Goddess and God
- Releasing Elements/Quarters
- Opening Circle
Here are the links on this site to componets of a ritual. In many cases there are more than 1 of each steps, i.e. multiple circle castings, this is so that you can have a choice as to which you use and because some are used specifically for 1 thing, i.e. spellwork.
