An interesting note is how obituaries are written now compared to earlier times. Compare these to the one of Bessie Swan found here in the middle of the page as an interesting historical persective. | COLORADO GEORGE REXFORD BLINN, 41, of Denver died Aug. 2 in San Francisco. Services are pending. Mr. Blinn was born in Akron, Ohio. He served in the Army and was stationed in Korea and Vietnam. He was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Mount Kisco, N.Y., the son of William Carrol and Helen O'Brien Blinn. He married Kathleen Stack in 1947. Mr. Blinn was a Marine veteran of World War II. He retired as a meat salesman. Survivors: wife, Kathleen; two sons, William Robert Blinn Jr. of Springfield and James Blinn of Ridgewood, N.J.; two daughters, Kathy Tamborlane of Madison, Conn. and Michele Maifield of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; a brother, John Blinn of Alexandria, Va.; and several nieces. Born Feb. 27, 1930, in Chicago, he passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at his home. Interment will be private. Mr. Heintz had been a resident of Grayslake for the past five years and had retired in 1990 from the Nabisco Company, where he had worked as a salesman. He was also a veteran, having served in the Navy. He leaves his loving wife, Arlene Heintz (nee Novak), whom he married Sept. 1, 1950, in Chicago; daughters, Susan Marsala of Chicago, Ellen (Thomas) Blinn of Schaumburg and Jennifer Heintz of Hainesville; sons, Thomas (Dawn Marie) Heintz of Hainesville and Kenneth (Lisa) Heintz of Schaumburg; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Heintz of Elk Grove Village; and sister, Muriel (Robert) Rosenthal of Schaumburg. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Heintz. Mr. Blinn was born near Glidden and had lived and farmed in the area all his life before retiring and moving to Carroll in 1983. (Rogers) of North Weymouth, formerly of South Boston, a retired clerk for Boston City Hospital, died Tuesday at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton. She was 69. Born in Boston, she was a 1940 graduate of Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester. Mrs. Blinn was a clerk for the Boston City Hospital outpatient department for 20 years. She was a South Boston resident for most her life, moving to North Weymouth in 1986. She is survived by two sons, Stephen M. of North Weymouth, and Robert A. of Braintree; a daughter, Joanne M. of Martha's Vineyard; and two grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Jerome's Church, North Weymouth. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. Mrs. Blinn was a member of the North Quincy Seniors. She had lived in Quincy for 65 years. Wife of the late Lucius A. Blinn, she is survived by two daughters, Mary Tracy of West Haven, Conn., and Patricia Windsor of Delaware, 22 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She was also mother of the late Robert and James Blinn, Elizabeth Donna, Barbara Hultstrom and Grace Ohearn. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church. Source: Boston Herald, January 19, 1996, page: 052 John F. Carroll Jr., 46, of Boston, a restaurateur, died Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 46. Born in Boston, Mr. Carroll grew up in Medford. He lived in Boston most of his life. Mr. Carroll was a 1973 cum laude graduate of Cornell University. He also attended Harvard and Trinity College at Oxford University. After graduation, Mr. Carroll directed recruiting and public relations for the Union College varsity hockey team in New York. He became managing partner of Memory Lane Restaurants of Massachusetts and New Hampshire in 1975. The following year, he established Front Page, a steak and seafood restaurant in Charlestown. He later founded Restaurant Management Corp. of America. Mr. Carroll was most recently president of Cornell Concepts, a consultant company to the hospitality industry. An avid runner and writer, he ran the Boston Marathon and wrote for numerous publications throughout his career. Mr. Carroll is survived by his loving companion, Kathy Connor of Boston; his mother and father, Claire (Blinn) and John F. of Medford; and a sister, Marianne C. Galeazzi of North Andover. Mr. Blinn was born December 24, 1925, in Wichita, KS, the son of A.T. nd Mrytle Grace Snyder Blinn. He moved from the Kansas City area to Topeka in 1994. He graduated from Carver Chiropractic College, Oklahoma City, OK. Mr. Blinn was employed by the Fastening Service Center in Kansas City for 10 years, where he had been vice president. Mr. Blinn and Dick Hodges owned and operated Hodges, Inc. for 10 years. They were manufacturers representatives in the fastener industry. He was employed by the Metro Industries in Grandview from 1982 until his retirement, January 1, 1993. Following retirement, he continued in a part-time basis. Mr. Blinn served in the U.S. Navy for three years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Overland Park, KS. He helped organize Boy Scout Troop 396 in 1967 in Prairie Village, KS. He also was instrumental in organizing the Explorer Troop 2396 in southeast district Kaw Council. He was a past scoutmaster. Mr. Blinn was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Topeka. He married Claire Day Kettering, January 31, 1954, and she died December 31, 1992. He was married to Nola Graham McDill, December 10. 1994, and she survives.
