| In July 2007 we spent 6 days and 5 nights in breathtaking Switzerland. We drove having stopped at Namur, Belgium and Colmar, France along the way. First we stopped in the capital city of Bern for a few hours before continuing on to Hasliberg Rueti where we spent 4 nights. Hasliberg is a part of Berner Oberland and specifically in the Brienz-Meiringin-Hasliberg area. Hasliberg Rueti is one of four Hasliberg hamlets on the side of a mountain and was connected to the rest of the world by one narrow, windy road and a gondola station. We hiked over to Hasliberg Wasserwendi one day and rode down to a gondola station just above it on giant "monster trotti" scooters on another day. On yet another day we hiked for four hours from the mountain peak above Hasliberg to the moutain lake called Engstlensee nestled between several other mountains. We spent our last night in the larger town of Meiringen in the valley below. Meiringen is famous as the birth place of meringue. As we left Switzerland we discovered Rheinfall (Rhine Falls) in Schaffhausen near the German border. Rheinfall is the largest waterfall in Europe. |
