About us

The  Meteorological  Observatory  at  Bangalore   was   established in 1867 at Bowring Hospital. It was shifted to the present location on Palace road in 1892. This  observatory  was  amalgamated  into India  Met.  Department  in    1951. Meteorological Centre, Bangalore was established in 1973. 

There   are 8  other  Departmental Observatories, these include Bangalore A.P. (1947);   Panambur (1977); Bajpe (1953); Belgaum A.P.  (1952);  Chitradurga (1892);   Gadag (1930);   Honavar (1981);   Karwar (1977)  and 20 part-time observatories representing district head quarters. 

The Met. Centre, Bangalore collects  daily  rain fall  data  from 300  rain gauge stations in real time and full climatological data from 32 weather stations in real time. All this data is not only  used  by  this  centre but also  exchanged Nation wide. At present Meteorological Centre, Bangalore  provides  weather forecast for    Karnataka   State; aviation    weather  services and     also    supplying climatological information of the State. In  collaboration   with    the  State   Agriculture   Department,  issues    Agro Meteorological   Advisory   bulletins  twice a week to the farmers of the State, which are broadcast over All India Radio and Door Dharshan.
