20.05.2008:  Santhebennur 9; Ranebennur 6, Malur, Gubbi 4 each;  Gadag, Nayakanahatti, Chikkanahalli 2

                     each; Kuknoor, Bangalore Airport, Honnali, Tumkur 1 each.

21.05.2008:  Yedwad, Hoskote 4 each; Chintamani  Observatory, Challakere 3 each; Navalgund, Chittapur,

                     C.N.Halli, Thondebhavi, Nelamanagala, Kanakapura 2 each;  Bhatkal, Shirali, Badami,

SEASON’S RAINFALL (DISTRICTWISE)  (01.03.2008 to 21.05.2008):

 

EXCESS   :  Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Bagalkote, Belgaum, Bidar, Bijapur,

                     Dharwad, Gadag, Gulbarga, Haveri, Koppal, Raichur, Bangalore Urban, Bellary,

                     Chikmagalur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Shimoga

                     Tumkur.

NORMAL  :  Bangalore Rural, Chamarajnagara, Kodagu.

 

Chief synoptic features and Associated Weather : 

 

                  Last week’s trough of low  at sea level  from Chattisgarh to gulf of Mannar across Coastal

Andhra Pradesh and coastal Tamil Nadu  with associated upper air trough extended upto 0.9 km.

above  sea level  persisted on 15th and 16th.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Another trough of low at sea level ran from  Bihar to Gulf of Mannar  across Orissa, Coastal

Andhra Pradesh & coastal Tamil Nadu on 17th and persisted on  18th with associated upper air trough extends between north Coastal Andhra Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu  upto 1.5 km above  sea

Level. On 19th the trough ran from Chattisgarh to Gulf of Mannar across Telengana, Rayalseema, South Interior Karnataka, and Interior Tamil Nadu and persisted on 20th with associated upper air trough extended upto 1.5 km above  sea level.  On 21st another trough of low at sea level over southeast Arabian Sea off Karnataka  & Kerala coasts.

            A low pressure area has formed  over east central and northeast Bay of Bengal on 15th, and moved away.

            On 21st an upper air cyclonic circulation lay over east central Arabian sea of Konkan  coast between 3.1 & 5.8 km above  sea level on 19th.  Another  upper air cyclonic circulation lay over South Interior Karnataka and neighbourhood between 2.1 & 5.8 km above  sea level on the same  day. Another upper air cyclonic circulation seen over eastArabian sea between 2.1 & 3.6 km above  sea level on 21st.

Under the influence of above systems  Over Coastal Karnataka Rainfall occurred at isolated places  from  18th to 21st ;  mainly dry weather prevailed on  17th and  dry weather on the remaining days of the week.

Over North Interior Karnataka rainfall occurred at isolated places  from  18th to 21st  and   dry weather prevailed remaining days of the week.

 

Over South Interior Karnataka rainfall occurred at a few places  on  21st;  at isolated places on 15th and  from 18th to 20th and mainly dry weather prevailed on 16th..

 

Maximum Temperatures:

Over Coastal Karnataka, maximum temperatures  were  above  normal at most places  on 16th, 19th, 20th, 21st being appreciably  so at  many places on 16th, and at a few places on  17th to 20th  and appreciably  above normal at a few places on 15th.

Over  North Interior Karnataka, maximum temperatures were above normal at a few places on 15th and were  normal on remaining days of the week.

Over  South Interior Karnataka maximum  temperatures were appreciably  above normal at a few places on 15th and above normal at a few places from 16th to 21st.

 

Raichur  recorded the highest  maximum temperature of  42.8° Celsius  on  20th and  21st  MAY 2008     during the week  over the State.
