*sighs* Ahhhh, YGO. My first venture into a true fanfiction fandom.
For the purposes of my YGO fanfiction, I use "this" as my "background" :
- Timeline: vague pieces of "season 1" YGO manga, anime Duelist Kingdom, Battle City (both anime/manga), manga Egyptian arc, manga end series.
- Name types: I tend to use dub names rather than the Japanese names, because I don't feel like I can portray the Japanese characters...that and I don't speak Japanese. If at all, I use the Japanese names for their "egyptian" names. *covers head* I know that's wrong, but it's easier to understand Joey=Jonouchi rather than Joey=Khons or something else.
- Name usage: I use the style of Yami (not Yami Yugi or Yami Yuugi or whatever), Ryou as hikari and Bakura as yami. I use Malik or Marik as needed -- whether the fic is closer to the Japanese or dub "personality." Likewise with Tea and Anzu.
- I completely ignore the DOOM arc and the other competitions between Battle City and the Ancient Egyptian arc. They totally killed Mai's character in the DOOM arc. As Lizeth said, the biker boy can go jump off a bridge. Joey'n'Mai f'ever. XD Yugi and Yami do NOT get seperated in such a stupid situation. Yami has enough problems. Nothing is more powerful than the God cards. On that note, I totally ignore the GX continuation.
Now, what do I write in this fandom? Anything and everything. Humor and sci-fi, I do 'em all (or at least, I will do 'em all.) This is my biggest writing "section" -- I know the most about the background and "feel" of the characters. Plus, I read the most fanfics in this category.
Pairings: Yugi/Anzu, Yami/Anzu, Ryou/Serenity, Joey/Mai, Tristan/Serenity, Tristan/Tea, Kaiba/Ishizu, Shadi/Ishizu.
These are just pairings I can possibly write about. After reading a ton of fanfics...I can deal with most other "fandom" pairings (Kaiba/Serenity, Duke/Serenity, Yugi/Yami, etc.). But not the way out ones. Like Weevil/Pegasus. ...Where did THAT come from anyway?
