| One of the latest lop-eared breeds is the German Lop. This breed was only officially recognised in its country of origin, Germany, in 1970. The first breeders had set themselves as a goal, the development of a breed of rabbit which looked just like the French Lop, but had a more managable size. By crossings which included French Lops with Dutch Dwarf Lops, the Germans achieved their objective. The breed became popular in a relatively short time, not only in Germany but also in other European countries. This was not only due to its attractive appearance, but also on account of the usually friendly and good-humoured nature of these animals. Outside Europe they are rarely seen, but this is perhaps only a question of time. This small lop is bred in many different colours. The butterfly pattern being the most popular. |
