Hermit crabs are fascinating animals, and we had the chance to study them up close and personal. First we read several fiction and nonfiction books about hermit crabs. Then we adopted two hermit crabs from a local pet store. The first morning they joined our class, we set aside time to observe them closely. We wrote and drew what we learned in our science journals. Later on, we created our own fictional stories about hermit crabs. We paid special attention to the plot of our stories. We worked hard to include a problem and a solution in each story. Here are some of our favorites. Write us to tell us what you think!
This is one of our pet hermit crabs. He likes to try on different shells for size. He always returns to his spiral shell, though. Perhaps he just hasn't found the perfect home yet.
A Hermit Crab Story
Once upon a time there was a daddy, mommy and a baby hermit crab. The baby got lost in the woods. The mommy and daddy looked for the baby crab. They looked in the sand and he was not there. They looked everywhere. Then they found him in the woods and they were happy to find their baby.
Another Hermit Crab Story
Once there was a Mother and a Daddy hermit crab. They went to look for food. They went off like a snap. They got trapped in a beehive but the bees didn't sting the hermit crabs. Then the hermit crabs had a baby.
