The Mindanao Week of Peace in GSC - 2004
With support from the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), KAMINKAP celebrated the Mindanao Week of Peace in General Santos City by conducting three activities, namely: The Media Campaign for Peace, the Information Drive for Peace, and the Planting Trees of Peace.
The Media Campaign for Peace saw the formation of a Speakers Bureau which coordinated with local AM stations in the city for one-hour panel discussions about the Week of Peace, the peace situation in Mindanao, and the role of the youth in Mindanao peacebuilding endeavors. This happened during the Week of Peace itself.
The Information Drive for Peace saw KAMINKAP's pool of youth volunteers disseminate position papers, the message of the annual Bishops-Ulama Conference message for the Week of Peace, and papers on "how to celebrate the Week of Peace" to various offices, agencies, institutions, and groups all over the city.
The Planting Trees of Peace Activity saw KAMINKAP's pool of youth volunteers coordinate with the Kagandahan Gensan Committee, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the Mindanao State University Tambler Campus for the planting of one hundred (100) seedlings of Mahogany along the designated access road that connected the MSU-GSC Main Campus to the Filipino-American Friendship Road which led to the Gen. Santos Airport and to the city proper in the other direction.
