STRATEGIES
KAMINKAP applies five strategies in addressing the multifaceted Mindanao problem. It is the overarching objective of KAMINKAP to benefit the Mindanaoans and their youth in the application of these strategies.
Advocacy
This strategy aims to use a set of targetted action, such as the provision of relevant information, directed at local, national and international policy makers and decision makers towards changing their perception in support of the instituionalization of policy issues that are pursued by our main programs.
Information-Education-Communication (IEC)
This strtegy aims is to bring about positive behavioral changes among Mindanaoans, particularly on how they understand and perceive the issues pursued by our main programs. This can be achieved through the provision, acquisition and utilisation of relevant information and services.
Capacity-building and Capability-building
Capacity building refers to the development, fostering and support of resources and relationships at individual, organizational, inter-organizational and systems levels. Capacity-building in this sense goes beyond the conventional perception of mere training. The central concerns of managing change, resolving conflict, managing institutional pluralism, enhancing coordination, fostering communication, and ensuring that data and information are shared require a broad and holistic view. This strategy covers both institutional and community-based capacity building. One of the key requirements here is to recognize that the social whole is more than the sum of its individual components.
Capability building strategy, on the other hand, is geared towards increasing the awareness, knowledge, and skills of stakeholders, ranging from network members and focal points to policy makers, planners, and project implementers, in terms of integrating Mindanao societal concerns into sustainable development.
Research
This strategy aims to advance interdisciplinary research into the conditions of peace and the causes of armed conflict and other forms of violence in Mindanao and how these directly or indirectly affect the youth therein. To this end, KAMINKAP seeks inter-agency cooperation designed to assist the advancement of peace research and, in particular, to promote studies and teaching related to the pursuit of peace and nonviolence in Mindanao; to facilitate contacts and cooperation between scholars and educators; and to encourage wide dissemination of results of peace research.
Community Intervention
This strategy aims to (1) establish zero tolerance policies for contemporary Mindanao issues, concerns, and problems on peace and conflict, human rights, environment, adolescent health and youth development, and community development by working to promote public leadership, awareness, education and empowerment among the youth; (2) ensure strong youth input and involvement in societal affairs at the community, local, regional and national levels; (3) Facilitate the creation and mobilization of Youth Action Teams and Networks to work in coordinated, collaborative efforts; and (4) Facilitate for livelihood projects to impoverished conflict-affected and conflict prone communities through linkages with funding partners with microfinancing and enterprise development programs.
