head gear generally seen with these gamurre consisted of a variety
of things. The ghirlanda--a padded roll, often highly embellished;
the balzo--a large rounded headdress, sometimes covered in false
hair and decorated; corna--a horned headdress worn with veils; the
trinzale and coazzone as seen in Figure 1--the 'Juliet cap' and
fabric covered pony-tail; often the hair was braided or twisted
and taped or sewn onto the head, then wrapped with strips of silk
or linen. There were also small fabric caps that covered the hair
coiled on the head (Figures 2, 3,
5 and 6). Some of these caps had cords that
tied under the wearer's chin. (Figure 5)
