As stated in the Benedictine Web site, the four goals of the literature program are to “develop an appreciation and understanding of literature in English and in translation; provide experience in reading significant writers, periods, genres and literary traditions in cultural context; teach strategies and methodologies for interpreting literary texts; and emphasize the vital and dynamic role of the literary imagination in cultures”.
These goals help literature students achieve whatever they desire. Whether it is to be a literary critic, a literature teacher, or just a wish for a deeper appreciation of the literature they read, the literature program helps students realize their aspirations.
After graduating, Trifilio still feels she made a wonderful decision. “I just love literature and excelled at it. I had no question in my mind that I wanted to teach English. Benedictine's program offered me a strong foundation in both British and American literature. I also received great core knowledge that I use everyday in teaching my students.”
